Title: The general Android thread
Post by: Codex on October 02, 2012, 12:15:16 pm
Because reasons.

JB update is bloody nice, faster, smoother and nice ui improvements

Haven't found the new google cards thing useful though lol

If JB is faster, wouldn't it be ideal for manufactures to roll it out to a lot more of the mid-range handsets instead of churning out models still running 2.3?

Going from 2.3 to 4.0 was a massive speed boost for me on my mid-range Huawei G300 and if JB is faster again I can only see gains to be made from Huawei to roll out 4.1

Yeah although the cost for the developers to do it doesn't make it worth their time

Look at the x5 handset (also known as u8800)

It has an ics port from the manufacturer and theres a stock ics rom called aurora made by a community modder, the aurora rom is infinitely better than the crap the company churned out. Generally unless you're using a high range phone the community roms are much better. Even for the top end handsets the community roms are generally better

I'm running samsung rom xxdlib (JB) with Siyah kernel and it's fantastic but i'll probably switch to Miui when I can be bothered. (On my s3)

Anyways, are you finding your JB roms make the screen scrolling more burdensome???...how do explain, after swiping the screen doesn't seem to scroll on as much as it used to on my ICS/GB/Froyo roms, wondering if there's a scroll setting i'm missing somewhere...

Maybe?

I have no issue, you could turn the screen sensitivity up though?

Oh yes it is way more responsive, perhaps as i'm using CM 10 i'm just not used to it, sense has a really nice scroll feel. Just upgraded fiances desire to ICS no JB availble for that yet, is an old phone by generations

Been running CM10 for a couple of days now and a few griefs; mainly the inability to change icons and the scrolling is too blunt. Needs MiUI customisations and sense scrolling. I see there are themes but they all suck and some even want you to pay for their ugliness that consists of a wallpaper and colour change but nothing actually worth a cent. Roll on ARHD JB...

The basic messanger works well but the layout isn't spaced and nice, is handscent the best downloadable free sms app?

I really dislike cm, it is functional but the aesthetics are terrible. MIUI tbh

GO sms is pretty good, I just use stock

Title: Android: How to fix a broken power button
Post by: Tiwaking! on October 04, 2012, 06:44:13 pm
Very very recently my Nexus One's power button stopped working. Apparently it is a common occurrence on HTC phones.

A must have app is AnyUnlock which allows you to use volume control or mouse button to activate the phone.

You may now return to your regular, scheduled programming.

Just flashed a gingerbread ARHD rom onto my old DZ and partners DZ after trying out a few ICS roms and JB roms and being disappointed, ARHD is just an amazing rom for speed and battery life, eagerly awaiting the JB version for my sensation.

I'm currently rocking a naked girl lockscreen that my fiance is not 100% supportive of but implicitly gave me approval as she gave me a zip of backgrounds.

It's not a battle that I want to drag out.

I just CyanogenMod.... I never thought android could get better but this is amazing. The speed and reliability is incredible, and the customisation is simply unfounded.

Shame my s2 is dying

Yes I know!

You can change EVERYTHING and it's so nice.

I really think the performance hit that phones take when OEM's install their version of android really hurts the android image.

Cyanogenmod is definitely more inline with what I would imagine google would have wanted.

As i said though, it's a shame my S2 is dying (screen has line all over it, wifi is dying, I think it took a hit a few weekends ago and hasn't recovered.
