Mornin'

Has anyone here had a stint with the Navy here in NZ? I've applied for the Naval reserves to get a taste of Navy life to see if I wanna make a go of it fulltime and was wondering what I could expect in the first year.. hell even the first assessments/tests.

I haven't practiced math without a calculator in as long as I can remember so I've been hunting around for basic stuff to jog my memory.. anything else I should do prior? my fitness is def. upto scratch and the 10 push ups will be a walk in the park.

Any information/tips'n'tricks will be appreciated.

apart from that, I won't be much help - although my brother was in the UK air force for a while

Yeah, I know.. Strangely I'm very willing to do so, I'm over the desk jockey work in this corporate shit hole, it's nothing to come home proud about and there's pretty much zero progression where I'm at now.

So if I have to shave, then so be it.

I have however seen plenty of reservists with beards and I've already gotten the all clear for my tattoos, so who knows? I might be able to keep it haha.

hey :) army reservist here. even if it is up to scratch, improve your fitness. the fitter you are going in, the better, if your just going in as a mark zero nobody then the maths and english requirements are pretty basic, like 6th form level.

Otherwise, good on you mate. its a champion thing to do :)

Keep the beard.

It's imperative to our tourism industry that all military personnel resemble warriors from Middle Earth.

Haha, yeah I had a bit of a lol about that when I read it out loud to my wife - "Seaman combat special.. haha seaman.." Better yet, my surname is Skipper.

I think they have to give me the job purely based on my surname.

If they leave out my first name amongst rank/trade it'd be the most confusing mess.

Not as dangerous as America's cup boats.
