Looks more like an exposure stack as apposed to HDR?

Perhaps the source images didn't have enough range differential (one right, one too dark, one too bright). Infact the top one appears as if all 3 were likely too over exposed. Blown out Yellow flowers and sky fringing. I would have expected to see some of those shadows lifted.

White rose. But lost the detail in getting the DoF.

Few seconds later I went to adjust to F5 or so to get the bride/groom less OOF and more flower. But they all moved.

Man, I still reckon Nikkon pwns canon in the metering front. The lighting always seems more flattering/soft/balanced.

I'll be sure to let you know the next time I go up, but the times I decide to go can be pretty spontaneous, and it depends if I can get a camera or not. I really need to get a tripod too! I'm certainly keen to catchup and trade ideas and work on a shoot together :)

Oh oh pick me pick me ;) And if the one you took of me taking photos at the Wedding yesterday surface in public.. I KEEIIIL YOU :D

280mm / 448 @ 1.6x crop

This is a good example of how you fell good about all the spending all those $$ on good glass.

Mate that is truly stunning!

Can you share a few more details, like what you used to stack, what iso, speed etc the singles were taken at. The detail is amazing!

Doh, EXIF was removed. Its actually just as clear as the single, but layering allows you to tweak the sharpness a whole lot more bringing out craters etc.

ISO400, F4, 1/500 - Was hit and miss for about 4 shots to get it right, cause the camera will tell you its going to be well under exposed (due to the black content) but it LIES

I was trying to get the green halo it had (bizzare atmospherics last night) but failed. Going for 2nd shot tonight if its the same. May need to bracket expose. 1 for the moon, 1 for the sky and layer.

I used registax to stack. http://www.astronomie.be/registax/ can be cumbersome, but can make a good result as above.

Thats certainly a lot better. Can actually see the butterfly now and makes more sence to the overall. The downside is the ledge is a bit to o/e now that it still ditracts away :(

I too went a but nutso over the CHC sky yesterday. It had dimples even.

NW shadowing ftw.

Correct.

Canon, and possibly Nikon? allow you to shoot using software and USB cable hard tethered. I have done this in a studio format myself using a 5m USB extension lead.

You can set shutter, aperature etc all on PC when camera is in Manual mode (uses the digital instructions the dials make when you use them on camera) and click take shot. 40D (live view) even lets you lift the shutter, and get realtime view of what you are looking at to align it before clicking shutter off.

It can leave them on camera and show you a snippet, or save direct to PC for review, like you see them do at model shoots.

I too was shocked at the number of people that don't install the full software suite and realise this :) RemoteCapture. Also supported in lightroom, CaptureOne etc.

I tried all this sorta stuff (HDR). And more or less failed so put it at the back of the list to do :P

It's rather a hit n miss to get the bracketing right to capture all the detail you need. Relying on the meter level isn't always as accurate as it thinks :/

More recently, off camera flash and strobing has been name of the game.
