Where are you, age of house, if you don't mind me asking?
Sockburn, 1960's . my brother's has had his house fixed he is in halswell two years old and my sister's house has been fix in rolleston 5 years old, but it has had more damage since last Monday..
all the walls and ceiling are getting cracks remove and painted floor is getting lifted and leveled and a bit of paint on the outside. we have already fixed the roof.. should take 3-4 weeks
had Fletchers around today have 4-6 weeks to find somewhere to live, they said after they fix the house it will have a 5 year warrenty But all is null and void if there is another quake.... lol
Me 'n Woohoo were both working at ASB Arena today for The Wiggles concert... I'm just really glad the quake didn't happen 30 mins earlier, when thousands of adults & young kids were crammed into the concourse buying merchandise before going home... or 60 mins prior when they were all sitting watching the show.
My radar's a bit off tho, didn't think it was that big at the time. Then the texts start coming in - you ok, we've lost power etc - oh well, being blase about aftershocks makes it easier to calm other people down
last i heard was that the harvey norman building is being repaired, that was about a week ago. if it was official, i'd hope i would have heard from my boss by now if it was a recent development
One of my friends goes to the gym in your building, he's been told they should be open for business in 6 weeks.
There are thousands of individual, personal tragedies in Christchurch. A number of current businesses may go under, but the market for their services will remain and be met eventually. It is little comfort for the individuals involved, but that's how it's always worked.
The point I keep making is that any business should be as prepared as it possibly can be for their premises to be razed to the ground by fire. The issue at the moment is how slowly insurance companies come through with their payouts.
Our Business is still waiting for an Insurance payout after the September quake.
Attached are photos taken by one of our Search and Rescue guys. There are a series of pics of the Chancellor Hotel showing the column failures. It was caused by the Cashel carpark. Called the 'banging effect'. The carpark got up such a swaying action (because of the length of the quake) it started banging into the hotel - about the 7th floor, causing the columns to fail. That then caused stress on the floors above.

Just found out that my cousin had to walk home from Halswell where he works because no-one thought to give him a lift back to town. His flat is in Fitzgerald Ave and he doesn't have a car. Oh well, at least he's safe.
Half of Fitzgerald Ave is a no go area.
