mmm. It's a fantastic tool, and most things that encode anything use it!
however the development on the mplayer project has slowed a great amount over the past few years to the point where it's sheer awesomeness has been encroached upon by other players (with cleaner codebase and apis too).
A sad day, I'm mplayer and xmms (original) diehard to the end, but... even I'm starting to question. They've dropped the GUI development all together too.
Oh yeah no doubt mplayer/mencoder is pure awesomeness and legendary but not for the faint of heart. Learning is not the problem (though will probably find even that problematic), its remembering!!! <3 Mplayer with all the right codecs.
VLC just makes the ugly.
Oh yeah VLC does some conversions too. The advantage there is that libdvdcss is already there. Rii, try compiling VLC from, source you might find you get better performance. Compiling XBMC is fun too. Seriously, tho while mencoder is pretty darn powerful, go handbrake.fr

Of any good free DVD ripper/burn software? <3
I use ImgBurn and it works great.
Looking at it doing a straight rip to avi. Does it do that rather than taking an image? <3
Use DVDdecrypter (or if you have access to linux, libdvdcss with copy disc to image), and then run the image through http://handbrake.frAvi is obsolete as a container, it doesn't handle newer codecs as well and has way too features for todays multimedia needs. Handbrake contains into ogm, mkv (my special choice) and mp4, and it handles x264 and can add multiple audio tracks and subtitles if you need those features. But it is rather slow.

As it is my first post apologies if I have screwed the sizes up and they are to big/too small. A couple shot my Mrs. took after snowboarding of me staking our house boundaries for the building of a fence to keep our dog in at the start of winter no shopping or color editing done
Wow, join date 2005, first post 2009, surprised you remember your password!

Electron micrsocope images are pretty darn cool. Try these on for size though. First atomic force microscopy of pentacene: Details hereLook pretty much looks like a text book representation of the molecule except I don't see any C's or H's at each corner And then recently imaging of the electron cloud around a carbon atom, again pretty much like a textbook representation. Details hereScience got it pretty darn right!

shit theyre massive ! (the loins lions .. though those yank cars are typically huge too) That's what I thought too until I went to Zion park; lions aren't as big as you image. Just look at this image with the lions next to the two door compact. Lionz.
Now tigers, they are huge by comparison, I'd say 1/3 larger. Tiger cubs are adorable though, except for those clubby paws.

I see what you mean. I've never heard of sinker in any other context. Downer maybe, but not sinker. Yeah i think the definition i gave more matches downer than sinker. I was a wharfie for a while. I can't believe I forgot that one >_< or long drop I have heard of Irish curtains very recently so I don't know if it is a new euphemism but can't remember what it is. I think since there are often used only verbally, it's difficult to see these words in print. Putting these terms in to context would have made the task a lot easier me thinks.

I've seen that pic here before. I suspect the camera angle makes this worse than it is. And besides he looks like he has some time (but I wouldn't say plenty) to react to protect himself from being totally screwed. I'd say those guys on the left might have enough time to react to maybe catch him or whatever.
