General Chat / America's Cup
« on: September 29, 2013, 10:17:33 am »
When i was working on the Americas cup 2010 challenge you could really see the difference in funding.. even back then.

A design stuffup led to Oracle just biffing four booms into the trash at an estimated value of $500k each, TNZ had a minor malfunction in the autoclave causing air-gaps in the carbon, and they were desperately trying to fix it as they didnt have the $$$ to stump up for entire new booms by the time the fault was detected... it was only after Emirates funded more cash that they scrapped the two faulty booms and one mast..

Even now.. the amount of cash being poured in by Oracle vs ETNZ is astounding.. the fact that Oracle were able to just slap another $50M American onto their boat in seven days is not just impressive by an expenditure standpoint.. but a labour standpoint. Seriously, an extra $50 MILLION of Equipment fitted to a BOAT in SEVEN DAYS, they would have had people dedicated to working on this shit 24-hours during that 7-day period.. ETNZ wouldnt have had the money for the facilities in San Fran, let alone the workforce..

It has been debunked.

The science it's based on is 100% true and can be seen on YouTube many times over, but in this instance it has been fabricated.

What would you shoot with a gun like that? Or is it just for the fun of it?

Literally, anything

I've known JT to shoot anything from deer to prairie dogs with it.. he posted me one particular photo that is a little bit too gruesome to put up here :P

This should appeal to Bane.

Hand made....  .700 cal slugs that weigh 1132gr which means you only get 6 boolits out of a pound of lead. this slug was loaded with what i would consider a mid level load at about 1600fps

Might want to look at adding some splash guards up inside the engine bay and perhaps one on the front to prevent that from happening eh :P

You would at least know Doug Gilmour from the HRS? Or Jordan Hart?

I'm currently doing 2nd Rangers and 3'rd Marines with the MRS. Didn't go to Omaka though, being a cripple and all.

Kooky dont let the naysayer's get you down.

SKS's can be surprisingly accurate out to around 300m. The best idea is to find the ammo that shoots the best in it, and then buy bulk

Or reload your own.

*Edit*

EasyMeat who do you reenact with? The HRS or MRS?

the SMLE was one of the most unbelievable bolt action rifles of the day.. The current world record for aimed bolt-action fire was set in 1914 by a musketry instructor in the British Army—Sergeant Instructor Snoxall—who placed 38 rounds into a 12-inch-wide (300 mm) target at 300 yards (270 m) in one minute. the "Mad Minute" was practiced and the idea was to dump as many rounds into a target as possible, coupling this with the "Volley" sights of the lee-enfield you could imagine that a group of people could lay down a considerable amount of firepower.

My two, a swedish beauty and a cheap American broad :P

The house is well liveable. No fresh water but we can work around that ( I have lots of beer :D) lots of cracks and the mantlepiece in the lounge fell off, but we can live here just fine for the time it takes us to move

Just be careful. Dont want to hear the whole place has fallen ontop of you from aftershocks.

I'm posting actual jobs rather than "Complete work pics" because my work is BORING apart from the things i actually MAKE..

I'm either eyeball-deep in coolant staring at a CNC machine (Programming, setting and operating) or being a monkey turning some dials on a lathe or a milling machine.. Yeah, toolmaker's job isnt the flashiest :P
Gotta love those CNC lathes :P

What are you running? I've got a Mazak V414 and a FJV at my disposal, and a crappy Kitamura Quick-change twin pallet thing that takes about six hours to program a five minute job..

if Iconz were a pub, Rii would be bleeding on the floor after glassing himself, Arni would be desperately trying to chloroform some cute chick and everybody else would be clustering around the pissing contest in the Toilets (AKA BF2)
