Yeah we tried to do that but they wouldn't because of my age for some reason, so we had to do it under his with me being a driver. And i have a $1000 excess.

They're pretty strict considering its only an AE101 1.6L 4AGE which has an alarm with an immobilizer.
As I said, make sure you are noted as the MAIN DRIVER, not just a driver.

Big difference come claim time.

Got a new car, my dad was insuring it for me. I had just read this whole thread and was like lol never going with state then. Dad rings the insurance company trying to insure my car (i dont know what insurance company hes with) and they call me because my car is under my name and they need my permission to talk about it with him etc. So im like cool, then the person is like "hello its blahblahblah here from STATE insurance........"

Fuck
One piece of advice. Make sure the insurance is in your name, and you are named as the main driver.

If you're not, and there's a claim, there's a good chance it will be declined due to non-disclosure. The cover will be more expensive, but otherwise you're actually just throwing money away - and if you want to do that, throw some over here ;)

Brokers - worth their weight in copper or some sort of other semi-precious metal :D
Haha - best not comment ;)

I didn't really have any Issues with state, I was Insured with them for about 9 years and had two claims, one for vehicle being broken into, the other for someone sideswiping me and scratching all the paintwork, they paid out on both with no hassles (the latter they billed the guy who hit me), the only thing that pissed me off about them was that stupid valuation thing "your car is insured for $18k this year" .. "But I couldnt buy a new one the same for anything close to that" "but thats the market value" "then your market value is fucked up"  .. etc ..

went to ASB, they had no issues insuring my car for what I wanted, and the premiums were less, and the comprehensive cover is pretty much the same (minus the 'roadside rescue' but i'm an AA member anyway)

So I guess I would also have to agree with the 'don't use state' purely on the valuation basis
Asb if memory serves use IAG for their private motor cover. And unless you have agreed value cover with them, if you have a total loss the settlement will be the lesser of the sum insured and the market value. So it really doesn't matter what you want to insure it for, the settlement would always be less if the car isn't worth that much.

Vero have even stopped putting a value on their comprehensive cover as the wording and basis of settlement is market value.

Basically because cars depreciate so quickly it's harder to get agreed value. Some companies offer it, but it's worth pointing out that you read the t&c's before taking it out. For instance the questions I'd ask are: How often do I need to provide a valuation? Will the insurer reduce the value at renewal? If so, how do they come up with a value? What if you don't agree with what they come up with?

For private motor you'll always get cheaper premiums going direct. But if its important to get claims settled quickly and efficiently, and if you want help at claim time to make sure the insurer doesn't pull a fast one, use a broker.

Same goes for home and contents - however, direct insurers have considerably worse wordings. An example is alternative accommodation. This is something a colleague of mine is seeing in Chch - their clients have a years worth of cover for alternative accommodation. This is where your house is unlivable, and the insurer pays for an hotel, or a rental etc. And some of the "other" covers are only 6 months. That's a huge difference and really important in large losses. And of course the broker is there to help smooth things through, plus of course an insurer like AMI will have thousands and thousands of people calling them and being in the queue, whereas a broker would have considerably less.

Lastly, if you're in business, it's very advisable that you use a broker. For instance, my company gets better wordings from a number of providers due to the amount of business we and our group have with them. Plus you get the advice about the correct amount of cover - things like business interruption aren't as simple as companies like Tower seem to think. Also, liability covers aren't all made equal - an example is one of my clients needed cover for sea testing boats he repairs, and only one company I went to would offer the cover without going to a really expensive ship-repairers policy.

Anyway, some advice is always better than no advice - and an insurance specialist is always going to be your best option :)

Robert Kubica could be out of action for the whole of the 2011 Formula 1 season as a result of the serious injuries he sustained in his rally crash on Sunday, medical staff have said.

The Renault driver underwent a seven-hour operation earlier today at the Santa Corona Hospital in Pietra Ligure following his accident on the opening stage of the Ronde di Andora rally.

He had lost control of his Super 2000 Skoda Fabia just a few kilometres into the event and crashed into a wall. The impact resulted in a length of crash barrier penetrating the cockpit of the car and hitting Kubica, badly injuring the right-hand side of his body.

As well as multiple fractures to his right arm, leg and hand, of more immediate concern was his partially severed right hand.

There were fears that the hand may have had to be amputated, but doctors managed to reattach the blood supply during a lengthy operation and are hoping the repair will be successful.

Doctor Igor Rossello, who is a hand specialist, told local media on Sunday night that it would take several days for doctors to assess the success of the operation - and warned that Kubica could need up to one year to recover.

"We need to wait for a week at least to verify whether the hand survives," Dr Rossello was quoted as saying by Italian media. "The nerve lesions are the ones that leave us with the most question marks over the recovery of functions.

"Rehabilitation will be relatively long, probably one year. He came here with multiple traumas, with several associated injuries. He won't necessarily have to undergo further surgery on the hand, but he will if needed."

Dr Rossello said that he expected it would take at least 12 months before Kubica would be able to drive an F1 car again - although he admitted racing drivers often recovered from injury far quicker than predicted.

When asked what the best prediction for Kubica to be back racing, he said: "One year is the best provision.

"I think it is quite difficult now, but you never know. Drivers are always very special patients. I have a lot of motorbike patients and they heal in a much faster way - faster than normal people."

Kubica's co-driver Jakub Gerber emerged uninjured from the accident, and said he did not know what had caused the Pole to go off the road.

"We were on the first four kilometres of the first special stage. I was looking at the notes and didn't notice that the car was skidding," he told Gazzetta dello Sport. "Only when we crashed I saw Robert holding his arm, and after a few moments he lost consciousness.

"Robert isn't just a great driver, he is a friend. I just hope he can recover soon."

Renault team principal Eric Boullier defended the decision to let Kubica keep rallying during the vital build-up period to the new F1 season, even though that decision now appears to have left his team without its lead driver for the year ahead.

"Robert is a person we love dearly: we are extremely sad and obviously shocked," he told the Il Vostro Giornale. "Whether it's a Lotus, a Renault or a Skoda it doesn't make any difference: it's nothing to do with business.

"We've let him do it because rallying is what he loves to do. Rallying is vital for Robert and for his sanity. Besides that, there is a reciprocal agreement. We knew the risks and so did he. We didn't want a robot or a corporate man for a driver."

Kubica has received an outpouring of good wishes from the F1 community after news of his injuries emerged - with a host of drivers, including Jenson Button, Rubens Barrichello, Heikki Kovalainen and Timo Glock - all expressing their hope that he recovers quickly.

Button said: "Shocking news about Robert Kubica. I wish him a speedy recovery."

Fernando Alonso, who is a good friend of Kubica's, even travelled to the Italian hospital on Sunday to speak to doctors - although it is not clear if he was able to see Kubica in person.

**Breaking News**

Robert Kubica has been seriously hurt in a rally in Italy. He's had or is having surgery for multiple fractures to his right leg and arm/hand. Reports are saying that they are working to save his right hand.

Very sad that his career could be over at such a young age.
update - apparently he was basically "speared" by the end of a barrier - still to be confirmed, but could explain why all injuries were to his right hand side, any why his co-driver escaped unharmed.

IMO he isn't a good enough batsman to demand that sort of treatment.
Of course not - it's not like he's the highest scoring T20 batter in ALL internationals or anything.
And where did he score most of those runs?

Not keeping means they bring in an average keeper who is an average batsman. In T20 they can I'll afford average anywhere in the line up and what's worse is it wastes a position.

If I was a black caps fan I'd want to know who is calling the shots cos it sure as he'll shouldn't be mccullum

Shane Bond has retired from all forms off international cricket.
Again?

He only came back to boost his IPL contract worth.

I'd have told him to fuck off personally.

Same with McCullum. WTF is he doing telling Vettori and Greatbatch that he doesn't want to keep? Fuck him - keep or fuck off. All he's doing is making it so a batting spot is wasted. IMO he isn't a good enough batsman to demand that sort of treatment.

that handball goal really changed the tide of the game

I hope melbourne kick sydneys as next week

Phoenix started playing better after they equalized 1-1.  I don't know what the usual punishment is but if the ref saw it you would think it would be red card and 10 v 11 for the rest of the game.  The Henry one vs Ireland was definitely red card if seen IMO.
Imagine the roasting he would have got if it was a home game.
A-league could be a good testing ground for fifa for TV refs for this sort of thing.

Yes - Go Melbourne

Quote from: maorifulla;1083917
it changed the whole tone of the game

after that the phoenix started pushing forward when they needed to score and thats when the holes appeared and brosque started opening them up

Go the victory !
This is interesting - I listed to a lot of debate over it on the way back from Hamilton on Sunday and watched it live.

Being an AVID football fan, and a qualified ref I am not actually sure it should have been disallowed.

Let me state my case.

The facts are:

The freekick was played in, Payne and the defender pushed into the 6 yard box to attack/defend the ball. Payne tried to head the ball in, he missed it with his head and the ball hit his hand/arm.

Now that's the way  I saw it. And the crucial part is "the ball hit his hand/arm" . Unlike Maradona and Henry where they deliberately handled the ball. This being the case one could argue that it wasn't deliberate handball and that the goal should have stood.

Once again for those of you who don't know the laws of football - for it to be adjudged handball there has to be intent to handle the ball, it has to be deliberate. Now forget about the outcome for a second - do you think he deliberately handled the ball? I don't think he did - he just wasn't good enough to head it.

Now if I am correct, then it's accidental handball and the goal stands.

I had to watch the last quarter updating on NFL.com - watched the end of the 2nd quarter and 3rd quarter at home. Was so shocked with the onside kick to start the 2nd half - amazing really. Loved the big bundle and how long it took the officials to sort it out!!

And that's the game folks - incomplete on 4th and 2, they turn the ball over with 50 seconds left. SHort of using their 2 timeouts that's it as Saints only have to fall on the ball at snap time :rnr::rnr::rnr::rnr::rnr:.

Some great offence really - only one turnover all game!

Name one QB apart from him, that could drive down and score a touchdown in 1:25 before the half.
He played well, but overall I didn't think he played great - just my opinion.

He was helped massively by the penalties the Ravens gave away - but yeah that was a good drive, I'll give you that :)

When you have a person named "Peyton Manning" anything can happen.
Maybe - but even he didn't play that great yesterday - no scores in the 2nd half other than the FG.

As mentioned, it was their D that won the game for them. And some awesome other plays - the one on the intercept where Garcon chased back and punched the ball out during the tackle was the play of the match IMO.
