TL;DR. having a HDD plugged into most Asus routers means your sharing all your files with the internet without knowing.

Router != Modem

If you don't already, should have a separate modem and router, with the modem operating in bridge mode.

Modem depends on what sort of connection you have.. ADSL? VDSL? assuming not fibre or shit would be supplied.
