Global Game Jam is being held at the end of this month from January 27-29.
It's a world wide event, where people get together and make a game. People who attend cover a whole range of skills like programming, writing, design, music, art etc
I went last year and it was awesome, you get given the game theme when you arrive, then you form a team and make a game in 48 hours (Firday 5pm to Sunday 5pm).
This year it's being held in 4 locations in New Zealand, Auckland, Hamilton, Wellignton and Christchurch. You can sign up here
