Tripod and its need depends on what you are shooting. In short, low light (night, dusk, dawn), tripod is better, but not always required.

Why do you like battery grips so much swindle? Swapping batteries is easy as, and I don't miss shots while I am swapping the battery.

Change the feel/weight and handling of the camera rather dramatically.

Wouldn't shoot an SLR without one.

Lens is 18-135 that I got with it. She has the Kiss rebel kit lenses from the 450D also. I think it's like 15-35 and a 75-300. Should be a good kit.
