The best thing about Finance Minister Bill English\'s latest Budget is that it does finally signal a much greater role for the private sector in the New Zealand economy. And another step along the way to extract this country from the political cul-de-sac in which Helen Clark\'s Labour Government parked us.

How do you stomp out a culture? You make it's way of life an abomination to the "true" creator's teachings. You make it's practices punishable by death. I can only hope that one day christians are treated with the same contempt that they issue to all the heathens. For you can get away with anything when you patron god forgives all can't you... very convienent

Quote from: Zarathrustra;387375
Fear is one of the biggest driving forces behind religion.

Fear of Judgment
Fear of Shame
Fear of Divine Punishment

And most of all, Fear of Mortality.

Has anyone here studied the Inuit(Eskimo's)?

My Gran had one of the most comprehensive books written about them from the 1920's or something. The writer has lived with them for forty odd years.

Anyway. Christianity never made very much headway with Inuit's. Why? Look at the shit place they live in! They live in a never-ending wilderness of snow. "You go the hell and are tormented by fire!" - The Inuit would just say "At least I'll be warm"

Their lives were so hard that they didnt believe that anyone went to hell. In fact, everyone went to heaven! Since they had no choice but to band together to survive conflicts didnt often arise AND there was no shame in their societies. AND when someone became a burden to their community(or felt they were a burden) they would leave themselves in the wilderness alone to die.

They had no fear of Judgement. No Fear of Shame. No Fear of Divine Punishment and no Fear of Mortality

There is a large difference between a cult and a religion, stop grouping them together. The actions of a cult shouldn't reflect on a religion, the same way the actions of one religion shouldn't reflect on other religions, and the same way the actions of a religion shouldn't reflect on all of humankind.

They call themselves christians and they act as christians - their views are just slightly more extreme then yours are - maybe they are just taking the bible more seriously then you.

the simple fact is that belief is god in irrational.

athiests are stupid, one can oly be agnostic at best.

IF i die and meet god and he asked why didn't i belive i would simple reply "not enough evidence, not enough evidence"

because at the end of the day there simply isn't. If you can present to me, bring it. I will glady rip it to bits - im in that kinda mode.

but seriously that is something that everybody has to figure out for themselves - after all it is the age old question - where you look to help figure out your purpose is up to you

This is science answer to everything. If you dont believe me, then you best do some study. I suggest these three fields:

Chaos Theory
Quantum Mechanics
Cosmology (optional)

Mr Simon_NZ

Are you a tooth fairy, santa claus, and easter bunny agnostic? If not (assuming you dont believe in these, rather then being a staunch believer) can you tell me how they differ from gods?

I am an Atheist (recently converted from agnostic by "the god delusion" - Richard Dawkins) - I don't see the point in entertaining the possibility of every monster that people make up.

the very example I used is from God Delusion.

I lean towards strongly agnostic, you simply cannot preclude the existance of God. It's impossible.

Being agnostic is a recognized scientific position. Because currently science cannot disprove god, it can simply say that is very improbable.
