What a load of bollocks:

a) The Ady was moving forward (she wasn't stationery)
b) She was not put in reverse, look at the jap footage and you can see her accelerate forward right before impact.

Seeing as the stated mission for Ady was:

“We're not going down there to throw stink bombs, we're going down there to disrupt Japanese whalers and there will certainly be some risks involved and hopefully we will come back in one piece,” says Bethune.

Japanese were turning and the Ady moved forward into the path of the bigger vessel.

If the Ady went backwards instead of forwards there would have been no collision.

I think both captains were keen to ram and blame the other like Pyro said.
The large Japanese vessell turns away at the moment of impact suggesting to me that the Japanese captain did not expect the Ady to move forward at that moment.

Even if the Ady was moving, or had the ability to move, it does not change the fact you can see the japenese ship turn towards the Ady. If the Japs were not trying to collide with the Ady, they would have turned the other way. The Jap ship is very manuervable, they can make very, very tight turns. Watch some of season 2 of Whale Wars and you will see.

Although I do agree the collision has raised a lot of publicity for the Sea Sheppards, and so is in their interest, possibly more than $2mil of advertising could have got them?

Idling != wake

The boat was ingear and making forward progress (only a couple of knots to begin with) - right before the impact you can clearly see it accelerate forward.

Yet the Sea Shepherd claim a) dead in the water and b) boat was in revervse.

By the way the Japanese vessel seems to turn afterwards, I'd say that they were turning the OPPOSITE way, trying to avoid the 'sea shepards' sneaking up on them with the engines 'idling' away (in drive), as to make it look like an accident.
