Nar, pretty basic photoshop work tbh

I liked it too. Like you said Rii, the idea was strong enough to carry it.

I'd like to see it done the other way, with modern day people obliviously picking their way through the rubble of history

I think it would take quite a bit of planning
that you have to have about the same lens on the camera to get the perspective reasonably right as well as getting to the almost excact same spot to take the new photo...
Photoshop will help with aligning both photos but it can only do so much before it falls apart.
I'd say the guy left deliberate 'ghosts' to make it all a bit arty/spacey...

Actually i remembered how you can do this reasonably easily, here's a website with lots

A beautiful new image of two colliding galaxies has been released by NASA's Great Observatories. The Antennae galaxies, located about 62 million light years from Earth, are shown in this composite image from the Chandra X-ray Observatory (blue), the Hubble Space Telescope (gold), and the Spitzer Space Telescope (red).

Oh Matty, you're so anthropocentric, Terracentric and carbon-based life-centric!

Sorry, did I say that they were human-like, living on an earth-like planet, or carbon based?

Can't quite remember...

Oh wait, my post is just there and I didn't.

Sometimes you really do hear what you want to hear.

No, you didn't explicitly write it, but you implied it by saying what you did, which is from an anthropocentric paradigm. How do you know there isn't a silicon-based pressurophile that lives off stardust and finds it beautiful?

No, what I am assuming is that evolution takes place in other parts of the universe (justified? unjustified? who knows?), and that most forms of life won't be equipped to deal with such a cataclysmic event. Just because one hypothetical pressurophile likes it, that doesn't mean that it won't disrupt the vast majority of potential life in that universe. It'd be pretty good for the cockroaches if we had a nuclear war, but for most life on Earth it would probably be bad.

All I'm assuming is that most life has not developed a way to survive another Galaxy crashing into it's own. Is this an unfair assumption in your opinion?

That is a fair assumption Matt, but not what your initial post on the matter said, which included the word 'anything', which seemed a tad absolute for me, and now we're here. Damn misconstructions!

Spring is sprunging!
It's a bit of a dull gray day with sprinkles of rain now and then but the blossom tree in our backyard is looking good...
