Leaping from Half Dome is illegal, but in Yosemite the sport of BASE jumping is soaring in popularity anyway. Climbers say it's faster (and more fun) to parachute into the valley than to hike all the way down the back of the mountain.
Surfer Coco Ho is momentarily suspended weightless between the ocean's surface and the shallow reef.
This picture was taken at Jockey’s Ridge State Park in Nags Head, North Carolina. It is a 90-foot-tall sand dune plus smaller ones situated on a small strip of land between the Atlantic Ocean and Albemarle Sound. The Wright brothers took the first powered flight just five miles up the road from where this picture was taken. Wes was able to get in five or six turns before making his landing.

A symbol of long-ago battles, Chateau Gaillard lies in ruins near the town of Les Andelys, France. It was built by Richard the Lion-Hearted—King of England and Duke of Normandy—as a strategic redoubt against the king of France. In 1204 French soldiers storming the castle broke England's grip on Normandy.
-WIKI- Between 1946 and 1958, twenty-three nuclear devices were detonated by the United States at Bikini Atoll, beginning with the Operation Crossroads series in July 1946. Preceding the nuclear tests, the indigenous population was relocated to Rongerik Atoll, though during the Castle Bravo detonation in particular some members of the population were exposed to nuclear fallout (see Project 4.1 for a discussion of the health effects). For examination of the fallout, several sounding rockets of the types Loki and Asp were launched at 11°35′N 165°20′E.The March 1, 1954 detonation, codenamed Castle Bravo, was the first test of a practical hydrogen bomb. The largest nuclear explosion ever set off by the United States, it was much more powerful than predicted, and created widespread radioactive contamination.Among those contaminated were the 23 crew members of the Japanese fishing boat, the Daigo Fukuryū Maru. The ensuing scandal in Japan was enormous, and ended up inspiring the 1954 film Godzilla, in which the 1954 U.S. nuclear test awakens and mutates the monster, who then attacks Japan before finally being vanquished by Japanese ingenuity. The Micronesian inhabitants, who numbered about 200 before the United States relocated them after World War II, ate fish, shellfish, bananas, and coconuts. A large majority of the Bikinians were moved to Kili Island as part of their temporary homestead, but remain there today and receive compensation from the United States government for their survival. In 1968, the United States declared Bikini habitable and started bringing a small group of Bikinians back to their homes in the early 1970s as a test. In 1978, however, the islanders were removed again when strontium-90 in their bodies reached dangerous levels after a French team of scientists did additional tests on the island. It was not uncommon for women to experience faulty pregnancies, miscarriages, stillbirths, and damage to their offspring as a result of the nuclear testing on Bikini. The United States provided $150 million as a settlement for damages caused by the nuclear testing program.

I was lucky enough to see these two fighting zebras while crossing the Masai Mara in Kenya. We stopped our vehicle and watched as the two zebras bit, kicked, and otherwise pestered each other. The two crossed our path and then started kicking violently. I followed the pair and was able to capture this moment just before they split up and went their separate ways. - Justin Bowen

Watching ... lovingly bathe his elephant, I tried capturing the moment from the riverside but wasn't satisfied with what I saw through the viewfinder. There was something lacking that made the image not do justice to the scene. I then climbed a tree with a branch extending out over the water and got my shot, which may have been my last as I almost fell off after taking it. I'm sure the beautiful elephant would not have been very happy about me falling out of a tree straight onto her stomach!—Caption by Mohit Midha
Leopard in Tree, Kenya. I took at least 50 shots and spent well over an hour to capture this beauty. The photo was taken in the Samburu region of Kenya. It had not rained in six Months. However, this young female seemed in excellent shape.—Caption by Lesley Bender
"World champion freediver Guillaume Néry stages an incredible 202 meter (663 Ft) underwater base jump at Dean’s Blue Hole located in the Bahamas. Dean’s Blue Hole is the deepest blue hole in the world and it was filmed entirely on breath holds by Guillaume Néry’s girlfriend french free diving champion Julie Gautier. This four minute video is an amazing example of exploring the capabilities of the human body as well as a fantastically orchestrated beautiful example of great videography. Watch and be inspired after the jump!"
