trust me it was only the graphics holding it back.

i completely dismantled my comp and cleaned it in the weekend lol changed the thermal solution on my 8800 to arctic silver, dropped it from idle at 56 to idle at 42, and my amd 6000+ idles at 28 with stock solution and cooling lol.

I don't know then ^_^, I might re apply the thermal grease on my card if it makes that much off a diff :O, it only dropped about 4-6 degrees on my 7900.

lol well im happy with my huge drop, my card never goes above 70 now, with rivatuner setup to increase fan speeds based on thermal readings too i used to get occasional heat lag but now i get smooth as gameplay :D

EDIT:
will be late on tonight visiting my mum in hospital

I'll buy an after market soon enough anyway, and my kewl pci cooler will work well with the stock heatsink design, would be mint to get an overclock as high as the fatal1ty cards.

youd be better off mounting an 80mm fan over the empty pci slots and take the slot bars out

guess whos getting this tomorow :D

lol, I had a 120 MM mounted over the empty pci slots(just fit) exhausting hot air, didn't do much, so strapped to 80 mm's to blow cool air on the cards heatsink(knocked off 6 degrees) that was with the 7900 which has an old heatsink that doesn't really suck in air as well.

you should position the fan on the back of the case over the 8800gts's exhaust slot so it at least pulls air out of the case and the exhaust

I will have 2 80 mm's intaking over the top of the heatsink, a 120 MM cable tied out the back off the PCI slots, and I also have a spare 92 MM I could do something with lol

on high it's noisy as fuckface, but I have a fan controller + some plugged into the mobo, might look into replacing some with quieter fans and keeping 4 powerful ones hooked up to a controller.

lol overkill, make sure you draw a diagram of airflow so you know youre not creating 'dead zones' where air gets trapped

I had a 170mm 12V blower that I chucked a molex connector on on the front of my old case and it was whisper quiet. True story.
