Just wondering if this would help would be pc builders where to look for their components rather then trying to scour the net for "reliable" and "cheap" pc suppliers.

Ultimately we are all looking for that bargain on a new gpu or cpu or which ever, but sometimes its a pain in the arse going through pricespy trying to find it. Maybe we can pull together and "watch out" for that bargain and update people here?

If its cool, i'll start with the basic sites:

http://www.pricespy.co.nz/

Simple search engine that does the leg work. Will not always show the best price. Also shows price comparisons between suppliers.

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Computers/index.htm

Hey, you'll never know if you dont try.

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/

To help you decide from selected "branded" components.

Reliable suppliers:

MOVED TO SHITTY SUPPLIERS SECTION.

PB Technologies
http://pbtech.co.nz/
Pros: Good service. Good cable selection @ hamilton Branch.
Con: tends to be more expensive. Dodgy owner at wellington branch

http://playtech.co.nz/
Pros: Quality gear. Occasionally cheap. Good service.
Con: a little more expensive than most places but you pay for quality.

Computer Lounge
http://www.computerlounge.co.nz

Con: They are on the pricey side but you can't beat the service they provide.

Pros: Free Postage over $100
Con:RMA can be difficult. Language barrier (asian)

Ascent
http://www.ascent.co.nz/

Con: Difficult to RMA.

QMB
http://www.qmb.co.nz/c.aspx?r=39720.9947814699

Cons: stock levels sometimes lie. They parallel import. Not always the best service, but average.

please add your fav supplies.

We could also warn people of dodgy sites as well.

Sites to Avoid:

NZ Laptops
http://www.nzlaptops.co.nz/
Reason: (from GH user 'Virus.'): "They tried to screw my brother, holding him off for cheaper parts and then sending him a cheaper, worse laptop than what he ordered, trying to trick us"

DragonPC
http://www.dragonpc.co.nz/c.aspx
Reason: Poor service, unreliable staff, website difficult to work with. Will not refund if no stock available

Tastech
http://www.tastech.co.nz/
Reason: Poor service, unreliable stock

PcPacific
http://pcpacific.net/
Reason: Expensive shipping

NZ OC Zone
http://www.nzoczone.com/
Reason: Very unreliable and dodgy advertising, have noticed on pricespy multiple comments regarding bait and switch tactics and not refuinding promptly. By the comments judgement STAY CLEAR OF OC ZONE.

www.silenx.co.nz
Reason: Ordered, was not contacted with any confirmation of payment shipping for 2weeks until I contacted them and supposidly it was a "glitch" in their staff not putting it out to ship.

I have been dealing with QMB for about 8 years and they have been awesome. Always cheaper than pricespy (I have an account) and always look after me with faulty or possibly faulty gear.

I have probably put a good 30k their way over the years.

www.pp.co.nz

Very very reliable, bought close to $4,000 off them. Highly reliable in terms of any warranty obligations and quick email responses to any questions you might have.

Some think they are more expensive than most places, but their prices include shipping so it ends up being the same, or less for larger orders.

I find extremePC to be very good dudes, and very good suppliers.

http://www.extremepc.co.nz/
They are my local, but their prices are usually some of the lowest on pricespy, have sorted all faulty gear without worries, and try their best to work around any language problems.
They even lent me a spare G card while my previous 8800GT was getting looked at.
Also if you buy lots from there, you can argue a bit of a discount :P

I you are looking for PC Cables in Hamilton PBtech have a good range and a lot cheeper than Dick Smith or the Appliance shops for things like HDMI cables.
Thou for an optical cable for my home theater, Playtech via ferret $18 with free postage.
If you are buying a TV or something and they try to sell you $200 worth of cables tell them to stick em where the sun don't shine (right next to their extended waranty) (Cost $40 for similar cables, won't notice the difference with a digital signal over 2 metres, 20 metres maybe?)

I've had a good run with C1 computers so will stick with them as my main supplier - Crap range for cables thou.

Ascent are very reliable, and they have a large range.

I just want to say, stay away from nzoczone whatever you do.
Absolutely horrid place.
I cant help but wonder why it was an extra $20 shipping to ship the same gpu, but different brand, to the same place? :sly: :sly:

Yeah, only problem with Ascent is returning stuff, even with me living 10 minutes walk away from them. They are still quite difficult to get quick RMAs because they're a reseller. They buy stuff from different places, like playtech, I know this for a fact because when I sent my TRUE away for RMA at first (base was scratched really badly), I was told to send it to Playtech in Auckland.

I ordered Vista from tastech and recieved an email saying when it would arrive. Then the day before it was due to arrive i emailed to confirm that it would be there, he replyed saying yes.
Showed up and he hadnt even ordered it.

DragonPC pissed me around when i urgently needed a harddrive. Called up to check they had a drive, got told they had 1 in stock. When i got there he wouldnt sell it to me because he wanted to put it in his own pc.

PP fucked me off with their credit card system, this was a few years back so it may have changed. But i told them i would never use them again over it.

AVOID DRAGON PC LIKE THE PLAGUE...EVEN MORE SO

1) the site makes my eyes bleed, in fact, my eyes bleeding would make it look better.

2) I ordered a case from them, then they sold the stock they had left to someone else, didnt contact me for a month or two, and didnt even want to refund me (did in the end :/ after ringing and abusing)

they can go f*** themselves tbh. They're a bunch of tools.

i bought my z5500 from there, had to be back ordered which was fine

got an email from them saying "I am sorry to the inconvenience"

She wasnt sorry to me, just to the inconvenience, how rude lol :P
