and yeah Growler sounds freakin epic would love to have a test run with them when they come out  was nearly in the market for a new camera the otherday as a jogger knocked me into the cascades stream in the waitakere ranges and just ran off fuck i was spewing fucker didnt even stop  fucked my tripod n all tis all good found his car and kicked the window in and left a note ..... thanks for the help up asshole

oh man that sucks!

If I had to buy a mid-SLR now I don't know what I would buy, some very nice cameras out there in the D7000, 7D & K5. Still waiting for sony's update, but the a850 is a serious bit of camera for its money. And with new Nikon & Pentax due in the next month or so, buy now or wait.... choices choices choices!

oh and as for flashes.

These are a good way to get into it, TTL support just not 'branded' with canon or nikon.

Zeekiel_NZ and I were talkin today and he mentioned this thread had some awesome photos from some of the TSW boys so thought I would take a look... have just spent the last hour or so going through them....

So while I wait for my Canon 60D to arrive from Japan I thought I would share some of the photos I have taken over the years chasing the rally (link)... these were taken with several different digi. cameras... from a cheap little 2MP Fuji Point and Click to an Olympus E-500 I borrowed last year..

Below are a few of my fav. photos I took last year, infact the first one has been my desktop for the last year


(focal length: 27mm, exposure time: 1/400sec, f-stop: 4.4, iso: 200)
(HDR'd using Photoshop)


(focal length: 34mm, exposure time: 1/400sec, f-stop: 4.9, iso: 200)
(HDR'd using Photoshop)


(focal length: 102mm, exposure time: 1/400sec, f-stop: 4.6, iso: 400)


(focal length: 33mm, exposure time: 1/800sec, f-stop: 4.8, iso: 400)
(Mark Tapper borrowed this car for the rally, and then rolled it after some idiot mooned him)


(focal length: 117mm, exposure time: 1/800sec, f-stop: 4.8, iso: 200)

Having looked through the thread and spent the last week or two looking at all sorts of photography Im really keen to try out a few light painting ideas I have and maybe a bit of time lapse once I get my Canon... Will make sure I post the results...

you def get things that you wouldnt have captured before with highspeed flash and super high shutter speed

Some sick rally photos there!

I was at the v8's and concerts...just got back actually. Popped a couple fun photos. First couple are hand held HDR so bit blurry - but I find it fun to try em when I can. Last one I have mucked with the levels but I quite like the shot - even though it was mainly just a lucky snap that I didn't really have time to setup at all. I just thought the lighting in the rain and spray looked cool. Interested in feedback.

Lol, good idea Swindle. I do like the centre being under the middle of the trees though. The contrast looks nicer in yours though.

Here's my play on the track pic, added a little bit of grain to give it some feel while still managing to burn out the edge details and hide the eyes etc. Really didn't want to crop as the trees at the top frame the track very nicely.
