Those first two shots are great, rest are obviously very good as well.

Thanks man... yeah I like the first two.... the second of the two was an awesome spot... except for the showering of stones at a million miles an hour almost killin me and the camera.... The first is an hdr of a shot I liked but couldnt quite get right so tried HDR and really liked the result...

Some awesome photos up! Love that first rally shot. The angle really brings it to life.

Not sure if I have put this up before. Focus not quite right but I love the composition and lighting. Tips welcome.

Yea, quite like that first one, Krasher, but as you say, it's close to being perfect, but just a tiny bit out of focus. Unfortunate, but oh well, that's what learning photography is all about. :P

Cheers! I just need to get her to hold that post while I take a couple with the right settings. Or I suppose I learn to have it all ready to go then 'boom' when the moment is there....perfect shot. Yeah right...

Cool shots man :) I like the frozen front flip.

The first 2 shots - Shot 1 of the wee bubba (is a great shot) is out of focus (as mentioned) and I can only assume its because bubba is too close to the lens? So just watch that, it gets everyone now and again. Also shot 2 - The foreground is very blurry. I imagine the shutter speed was kinda slow. Don't be afraid to ramp up those ISO settings :)

This may help, or it may not :) If anyone ever asks me for advise on DSLR shooting, I just say use AV (aperture mode) coupled with higher ISO's for a while. Helps you get your head around what works in what situation. Also gives you the freedom of being able to hit the shutter button with worry of correct exposure and the SV (shutter value) is selected for you. Keeping the ISO up will help keep the shutter up and keep your images crisp :)

Really nice work over the last few pages here.  Swindle, the contrast and focus you achieved on that black and white series is exceptional.  Also enjoying the shots you are doing of your kids, and the ones where you were playing around with DOF.  Dead, the one of the fish in the rockpool looks almost surreal like some otherworldy reflection of ghostly fishiness.  The "misty flow" effect over the rocks looks great too.

What causes all those artifacts? My lens is clean - just reflections of light or something?

On another note, I do have to say thank you to you all who post their wonderful pictures in here. Always helps me relax and drift off when viewing. +1 rep to all picture posters: D

@ Swindle, that last picture you posted of the sea, sets me into dream world where I am not in my office on this sunny hot glorious day, but slowly drifting on some wood, helplessly waiting for a ship to pass by and pick me up from my sun stroked state and rescue me from dehydration, while the sharks taptaptap and scoff at me while I dip my tongue into the salty water and restrain myself from drinking......

Imagination, who would of thought it could be so entertaining. Thx :D

Had a paddle with the kids and the obligatory wet nuts gettting the boat off the beach, was cool, but not too cold.

Yah, the kids fishing is out on the way to the heads by the Salmon farm, the beach with boat is Bros Bay which is opposite Akaroa, one of the few sandy beaches that is sheltered.
