Now they just have to figure out how to get us there so we have somewhere to go when this planet explodes..

Apparently they have until December 2012, I saw it in a movie, srs.

NASA Estimates that there are possibly 2 billion Earthlike planets in our galaxy,
If the universe is infinite then there must be an infinite number of planets that are "earth-like" (I prefer the term Class M, myself).

The best thing about Finance Minister Bill English\'s latest Budget is that it does finally signal a much greater role for the private sector in the New Zealand economy. And another step along the way to extract this country from the political cul-de-sac in which Helen Clark\'s Labour Government parked us.

Spacemonkey, I want to make a deal for a 1 way flight to the moon on your space ship. Presuming that the costs are purely for the trip (which they wont be), If its 10 grand to get over 2000 light years away, Then... 1 Light year costs 5$... Maximum

With 1 Light year being 9460528400000km's, and the moon being only 384403km's away, Thats about 0.0000000406 of a light year. Presuming I worked this out right, I would need to pay you $0.000000203

Just to be nice we'll round that up to 5cents. YOU KEEN? 5c to drop me off at the moon? You don't need to land or anything, Just drop me off close enough to the gravitation pull of the moon and i'll float my way down. I also wont sit in a seat, So i'm not making you lose $9,999.95. It's a short trip so i'll just stand.

Now all I need to do is convince the government that the new earth's moon is too shit to be our moon, and that we can just bring ours...

Kayne, the major cost is the fuel required for escaping Earth's gravity. But since you asked so nicely, I can do it for a $1.50.

I can still drop you off at the moon, but we'll be traveling at 40,000 km/h, so make sure you roll when you land.

I was planning to take a zorb with me. I would imagine that travelling 2,000 light years would take a long time, So I was going to bounce around on the moon whilst you all dragged me with you :)

$1.50 sounds good, I forgot that you don't lose momentum in space? So it wouldn't take much fuel to get that far i'm guessing? Still, If you drop me close enough into the orbit that I will keep orbiting untill I eventually hit the ground, The zorb should roll fine.

Interesting ships cat.

Convoy was the ship's cat aboard HMS Hermione. He was so named because of the number of times he accompanied the ship on convoy escort duties. Convoy was duly listed in the ship's book and provided with a full kit, including a tiny hammock where he would sleep. He stood by his ship to the end and was lost along with 87 of his crew mates, when the Hermione was torpedoed and sunk on 16 June 1942 by U-205.

I doubt he, along with any of his crew mates had much of a choice. Stay on and die inside or bail and freeze to death in the freezing water.

Spacemonkey, When Can I expect this to be done? I was watching a space docco last night, and They said that in 2029 (if I remember correctly) A asteroid is going to fly past earth, and will fly right between earth and our satellites. If it doesn't hit a "gravity keyhole", It should fly right past earth. My question being, Are we going to be well out of the way by the time it comes near, Any chance we could wait until then? And will the small gravity of the space craft be large enough to cause the asteroid to destroy the world? If so, Can we somehow make it destroy the world? I figure it would be boring after an hour of bouncing on the moon. Some fireworks to farewell us would be quite nice :) Also do you have Gamma ray burst / black hole insurance plans?
