But mencoder ain't old.

mmm. It's a fantastic tool, and most things that encode anything use it!however the development on the mplayer project has slowed a great amount over the past few years to the point where it's sheer awesomeness has been encroached upon by other players (with cleaner codebase and apis too).A sad day, I'm mplayer and xmms (original) diehard to the end, but... even I'm starting to question. They've dropped the GUI development all together too.
