Oh god i know, nz media (one news, 3 news, prime news) is truely shit. They always take sides and never give the "oppisition" a chance to speak plus they are awful at just providing information and the interviewers suck ass. I get my news from stuff.com (which can have some pretty terrible articles tbh) or cnn/bbc, those two are great

a series of pics of the Chancellor Hotel showing the column failures. It
was caused by the Cashel carpark. Called the 'banging effect'. The carpark
got up such a swaying action (because of the length of the quake) it
started banging into the hotel - about the 7th floor, causing the columns
to fail. That then caused stress on the floors above.

I can kind of understand those trying to get data so they can start doing business again, but really they should have been doing off site backups if it was that important. Sadly a lot of small business just don't think about that sort of thing.
