Had a hdd in a similar situation. Computer wouldn't even recognise that anything was even plugged in. TestDisk not only read it fine, but saved pretty much every single thing on it.

Haven't decided on an exact place yet. But it's between California and Portland. California because it'll be easier for the both of us to get jobs, but California isn't an easy place to live in. The people are a bit more abrasive and commuting is a must. Portland because it's close to Seattle (Mrs. hometown) and because the weather (we love gloomy, dark weather). Ideal place is Portland but it's not exactly a Metropolis of job opportunities. On top of that, I have to find an employer who will petition my H1-B Visa.

Fuck Portland, just go straight for Seattle. Go work for Valve!

So it just occurred to me that it's been 4 years and 8 days since the Orange Box.
What have Valve been up to since then?

Well we've had:
l4d in 2008
l4d2 in 2009
Alien Swarm in 2010
And Portal 2 in 2011.

And on the horizion it seems we have a new counterstrike and DOTA2 (seems odd as it was a WC3 mod...)

But no sign of the conclusion to the HL2 story arc.

HL2 goes for $9.99, but HL2:Lost Coast (a single level that was just a tech demo for HDR Lighting) is their most expensive game, at $70 over anything else, apparently what was given to me for free now costs $99.99! Had a wee chuckle today reading the press... some article about protestes against greed or someshit. Picture of some anon fag wearing his mask holding a sign riddled with internet meme "Y U NO something", with the caption from the reporter "A protester wearing a guy fawkes mask..."

I wondered how someone could be in the news business and not know the pseudo infamy of the 'anon'. Especially when the picture was situated adjacent to one of the wikileaks founder for the same reason.
