Plenty of space at the Irishman, but less craft beers. Probably cheaper though, though I dunno.

Life is crumbling around me.

I wont be eligible for a working visa until October next year (US).

Mrs. visa ends in March next year and needs to go back at that time in order to start an internship.

Her parents have just flip-flopped and no longer support me (labelling me a leech which I don't understand) or our engagement. So no green card for me via marriage which is what we were going to do if we needed to.

All these feels.

That sounds really brutal. But i thought marrying your fiance would get your the green card (assuming she is a us citizen). Or do you mean the lack of support will disrupt the wedding plans.

It would. Getting a K1 visa, hitting the States and having 3 months to marry would give me my green card easy peasy. Which is what we were expecting to do, I mean, we are/were engaged.

However her parents have voiced their unnaproval of me in recent days and don't want their daughter marrying me anytime soon. Apparently they don't have sufficient evidence to see that I'm worthy of their daughters hand because essentially I'd be co-inheriting their estate/empire.

Having 2 degrees, experience and defying the odds in an industry that is brutal beyond comprehension isn't enough for them. I have to be someone just shy of President material.

That and my partner isn't willing to budge on anything and is completely fine with the fact that we may never see each other come March which churns me up like nothing else.

Nowhere else to vent, sorry.

If parents don't approve and are worried about you stealing their moneys, suggest a prenup?

Hang in there, if you have made it work this long, she's worth it.

I know. I'm hoping my partner comes around when the time draws near.

I've seen her breakdown when faced with being apart for more than a month.

However, she'll never defy her parents. Asian upbringing.

MCC - Her parents are also doing what good parents should do, prevent their kids from making bad decisions that they did. And they think marrying at our age (24 and 27) is a bad idea. She's worth it, every gut wrenching second she is worth it.

My only option now is to hope someone State side will give me an H1-B visa come October 2013 so I can work in the US.

Advanced Diploma in Multimedia & Design (degree level)
Bachelor's Degree in Applied Visual Imaging (international degree).

My prospective jobs would be - print design, corporate design, web design, brand development.

That's part of it, Codex. They don't see Graphic Designer as a real profession, if I was some IT king I'm sure they'd be fine with me. I don't plan on being a designer for much longer, I intend on my next step becoming a senior designer (which I already class myself as considering I manage my own clients/work/and don't ask for permission on finished jobs, it's up to me to put them to print and proof them) then onto a creative director and then follow in the footsteps of Martin Lindstrom. They've been pretty supportive of me recently, even offered to help me out with my masters by giving me $5,000 as they said "we see you as a great investment, you're a bright guy" then they come back with "we've been talking with friends and we and they think you're to young and we don't see you as someone who can support our daughter".

To be honest, I'm crushed. It's the typical generation gap at work. Her parents made some bad decisions when they were young and they are doing everything in their power to prevent us making any bad decisions which I admire but we're not them, I am not him.

If this falls through I'm likely going to run away to the UK or Canada.
