Does anyone know anything about headphone amplifiers? I got a hold of some Beyerdynamic DT 770's (really comfy buggers) that were 80 ohm, and was advised that a headphone amp is useful for anything 250 ohms; and that standard portable headphones are usually like 25-32 ohm.

Do I need to buy a headphone amplifier for these headphones if I want to listen to my phone or ipod at optimum level? What the fuck is a DAC?

Digital Analogue Converter.

Get one of those olive tin ones. I always forget the name. 'open source' though, so if you wanted you could build one.

Ah, C-moy I believe it is.

They're renowned for being incredibly simple and cheap, yet outperforming many expensive commercial alternatives.
Or so I hear*.

*("or so I'm told", I haven't actually done any comparitive listening myself, however I have a friend who has one and loves it).

lots of DIY audio is.

amps you have to be a bit careful with, cause transistors are a tricky thing.

are they?

transistors aren't so tricky if you're just switching, supply the right amount of voltage and they toggle, it's the whole not switching thing and the 14 different formats you can have them in (all of which I have forgotten) that gets tricky.

I dunno why we went away from valves, valves are far more impressive than a shitty little black square.

I think I made a very very similar comment when I downloaded the first Simcity beta in January, but there must be some pretty damn good servers on EA's end to support these speeds, I am usually very happy if I get 10mb/s, never before today even seen above 12.

I got into this today too :D

Have only had time to play the tutorial so far, keen as to play a proper game. Not so keen for the 1 hour time limit though :(

Yea, the one hour limit sort of forces you to play against what SimCity is all about - taking your sweet ass time to do everything right.

At least it isn't far off now though.

Another hour another town.

I hope in the full the city can be physically larger, the area of land is quite small. Had the zombie issue that time, was shit, had to demolish a shit load of places. Also had a torando, which sucked ass.

Apparently they are looking into larger city areas, but won't be available on release, so pretty much it will be DLC.

Just found out if you go to region, you can start another town in the same little area, which can then trade with your first town and shit. Hard to setup well with only 1 hour though.
