I've gone through a couple because of sheer incompetence.

However I'm now with 24/7 Hosting NZ. Apart from their unintuitive account UI, they provide a good service for a good price.

Been trying to do a very regular mundane task with them, so var we're about 5 weeks and 40 emails in... still not resolved.

Took 10 emails just to get them to complete a basic task. The first 9 included such responses (paraphrased) as "works for me", and no less than 4 issue sidesteps.

I'm trying to transfer a domain away from them.

• They deliver domain authorisation keys via control panel. Does not go over email to registrant as it should.
• Domain authorisation key is inconsistent with normal EPP code. I have to get my registrar to bypass their systems and manually start the transfer.
• They're listed as the admin contact. Confirmation letter goes to their email address. It is not responded to, nor forwarded to actual domain owner (who actually is listed as the registrant, international domains send to admin contact though, because whoever designed that system was a bit derp).
• The domain authorisation key is INVALID.
• 'Generating' an authorisation key via the control panel actually doesn't. It simply fetches a STORED one. This means you cannot get a new key when the one you have turns out to be wrong.
• Emailing support to ask them to generate a new key results in a single line answer that simply lists the one you already have.
• Asking them to actually generate a new one as asked results in a side step: "What's wrong with the one you've got?" (basically asking for error given)
• Telling them AGAIN that it is simply invalid results in "We've been testing the EPP code and it seems its being accepted by any registrar." (sic) and asking who the new registrar will be (sif it makes a difference).
• Hinting that you know it's an easy task and they should have just done it in seconds after the first email they finally give up a new code... conveniently similar to their business name.
• Transfer seems to actually succeed this time. Automated email comes in saying that transfer will happen after [date] unless email is manuall sent to their support team to stop it. No automated link accept/deny given (as is usual).
• That date was 2 days ago.
• They are still the listed registrar.

Wherever you go it seems people who don't actually do diddly dick with them have '100%' type experiences (buy domain, put website, never touch type 'experience').
And people who actually want to have a hosting account give 0% reviews, and/or scam questions.
Eg, Have a friend with a VPS with them, slowest VPS in NZ (could probably get faster on residential DSL), no responses from support.

Very dodgy sounding owner.

Probably picked this company up cheap when SAFI tech went bust. Uses alias, listed business address doesn't exist, failed dodgy hosting companies in the past, vainly names company after himself, appears to be the only guy actually working there under a whole bunch of aliases... all kinds of douchebag moves. (lol sounds like Chilli)



Oh, and the gem that came in the email for the fella I'm trying to do all this for:
"Update your wordpress or we're halting your account today". No help beyond "use the installer in your control panel". They are the PR bads.
I notice site is still going, lol. Empty threats leave whole server (presumably at least a major slice of the shared hosting) at risk, GG.




TL;DR
Would never use. Even if cheap.

Seems ok until something slightly awkward comes up, then shit seems to fly off the rails real quick.
