So I received a text from my phone provider Vodafone saying my service has been cut off due to going over my internet data usage (1.5gb per month which ive never gone over before).
bill of $450 just for the data.

Apparently I had used up 2.5gb on 17/07 and that was the sole reason i received such a large bill.

$450 for 2.5gb WTF!?

Luckily (for them) the bloke I called up got rid of this charge 'as a once off exception only' otherwise I was about to ready my warships.

2.5GB $450! Seriously what the fuck?

EDIT: I wonder how many people pay those types of bills without calling up first.

Yes. 1.5gb for my phone, and considering I don't download anything on it, just browse le webs I don't usually use over 500mb in a month.

Yea, when they removed the charge from my account (they forgot to remove the call barring which they activated so I had to call back the next morning) I asked if they can put something on my account to stop it going over the cap which to me should be put on every account by default if there is such extreme over usage charges, however while the guy said this is something which has been suggested many times before it is not currently implemented, which means they don't give a fuck as long as people keep paying these over charge fees, it's like money for the phone companies doing nothing.

The guy did activate some alert thing so when I get to 50% usage and 85% usage it sends me a text.

you didnt inadvertently activate your phone as a mobile hotspot did you ?  that could do it if you have no password logged for it
