Sound on super loud because I was watching an episode of the sopranos which had crappy sound quality, then I was browsing Facebook, clicked some advertising link because I was bored, and it started playing some extremely loud music.

THe roof jumped through me.

I don't like the prescription, i.e. being told when to buy things, give things, hang out with my family etc. If you have to be told, you're doing it wrong. If it's not something you would willingly do at any other time of the year, then it is disingenuous and buying into the whole neofascist corporate agenda of debt slavery and submission.

This, in part, is why I don't celebrate Christmas. The other reason is I'm not religious and therefore don't see any need to replicate the offerings of Melchior, Gaspar and Balthazar.

Recycle your red poppies, paint them white, and wear them throughout the year.

actually usually the thing that tips me over the edge is all of the retarded drivers that are usually at work during the day are now spilling out all over the streets.

Christmas itself is a useful Capitalist device, and, well the story of Jesus is at the very least more interesting than a kick in the pants. The holiday itself and the appreciation of another hard year is really the tits. but i always struggle to really appreciate it without drinking myself into a stupor, so ill just do that.

For me it is all due to laziness, the presents thing is just because I like to bring joy, but don't like to draw attention to myself, so unless they are someone differently special (such as a GF or what ever of sorts) I struggle to find a present that the person wants/ needs without asking them.

Also, my family are broken apart, parents divorced years ago, brother moved to Melbourne about four years ago, and while I still live with my mum, I may see her once a week, and Christmas is pretty much the only time we all have off work, and a dedicated time each year to 'catch up' and be a family. Sure it is a bit sad, but oh well, it's better to do this at least a few times a year rather than not at all.

I can agree with that, Christmas being a time of giving and love seems a bit silly to me too. We should live like that always not just at one time of the year.

However as mentioned somewhere above, christmas is the time of year where most people get time off work. That gives people time to spend with family and that makes it special.
Coming from a country where christmas isnt important i normally wouldnt get too excited, but being the only chance we get to hang out with all the family makes it a very exciting time.

I was never really a xmas person.... but my 3yo boy changed that a hell of alot for me. The excitement he gets from it is worth its weight in gold. We dont make a huge fuss about pressies in the family, but we give the kids stockings etc.
