Yea, I thought it was pretty decent, the story wasn't magnificent, but I was high while watching it, so I pretty much forgot the storyline the second the credits rolled.

So this customer brought a brand new PC which we built for them back in today, saying that it turns off after a certain amount of time, and he thought it was overheating.

I did the usual tests as in memtest and WD Diag, then went to check the VGA card (HIS 6870) using furmark.

swapped over to another PC I was finishing up building - installing drivers n stuff, when I suddenly smelt something which I've smelled a few times before. Burning plastic.

other PC had shut down, and there was a very strong smell of burnt pc. I checked the HDD, but that seemed fine, then I checked the mobo and there was a blown capacitor on it.

I replaced the mobo and all worked fine, wrote up a warranty DOA form, and told the manager of the day.

her response was;

'Who did this!?'

I said that I was the tech who was diagnosing an overheating problem with the PC.

'YOU did this?'

I replied saying exactly what I did previously but restructuring the sentence.

Then the manager went on to say that the supplier most likely will not cover it as it's physical damage.

I know it will all get sorted out tomorrow when the other manager comes in who actually understands english, but I mean, if you work in a computer store, you would think that you would know about computers.

I don't know HEAPS about PCs, as in why the mobo blew up, but I know that if I see something like that, it doesn't mean that I took a piss on the mobo which caused it to bust. It's an obvious fault in the build, but I was just instantly surprised by how the manager jumped toward blaming me, as in I had purposely damaged the motherboard...

These people confuse me.

^the highlighted items are voltage regulators (VRMs for short) thats a 8 channel VRM motherboard

The capacitors are the short round silver tubes with a light blue blue partial marking and text

Yea, I didn't think they were capacitors, but didn't have a clue what else they are.

Like calling a PC tower a hard drive.
