Possible also an orb weaver, there has been a huge increase in the amount of spiders in SA this summer and there abouts due to some climate thing. I remember reading about it last year.

There are about three or so GOW in my backyard, which have been there for quite some time now. Just checked, the first photo I took of this one was on the 9th of January...... When it was quite a lot smaller, and I had no idea what it was.

Yea, I've seen a couple of those but a bit smaller (possibly just young ones) in February, however they seem to have disappeared. Which is sort of frightening, the good thing about the big one in my lemon tree is that I know it is there, if it one day vanishes then I will start panicking haha.

Although GOW spiders are not dangerous, they will extremely rarely bite a human, and even if approached very closely they will not defend themselves until they absolutely have to. Their eye site is apparently an average of about 20-30cm, so they rely a lot on vibrations. So they are fine to leave alone - the only reason why I want to get rid of it is because I really do not like spiders, I don't care that it isn't dangerous, it looks like it could strangle me in my sleep then eat me before I would even realise what is happening.
