+1 for royals being no use, give nothing, good for nothing pricks born into tax payers money. GTFO.

Their hardly "give nothing".

Their patrons of lots of charity's and there's also the influx of tourist dollars in regards to Buckingham Palace, changing of the guard etc.

Also, No, I'm not a royal watcher, just think there's a few things being overlooked.

Hey if you want to fly me around the world 5 star style and be treated like I'm all that, tour me around the place, and have it seen as 'giving' then shit, where do I sign?

They offer no talent, intelect, skill or anything else to rise them above the average person!
Every man is born equal, to me. These dummy figure-heads represent  nothing more than a bygone class system based on pomp and prejudice. I live in a place where democracy rules and the people in power are chosen and have to prove their worth, not born into my favour. It's rediculous.

The only reason they have anything to 'give' is because everything they have is 'given' to them for no other reason than they are born into the last family to hold power over England. They take some of the GDP from each of the colonies under their reign, why? Seriously, what the hell for? Protection? The parliament offers us alliance, independant of royal power or money.

I have nothing against them individually as people, I wish them the best just like any other but they deserve nothing more than I do. So really it's the royal sytem that I hate.

If my country (and many others) showered me in riches beyond comparison, I'd feel the need to 'give' a little. In fact I'd feel pretty guilty about the whole thing.

As far as I'm concerned, it's the British tax payer paying for the royal family. So it has nothing to do with me, or any of you.

Yeah, in an S&R capacity. Prince Henry was deployed to Afghanistan though, until a newspaper published the fact.

In does.
We all contribute to the millions of dollars spent on royal visits. Any time they come here, tax money pays.
The governor general also gets a massive mansion and a big wage (around 20million worth per annum).

Good on them for doing some service, but do normal people who serve get treated like them?
I just don't see why these people deserve fame and special treatment. The greedy bastards even have their own businesses to make more cash, as if the british tax isn't enough.

GG is irrelevant really. When we finally become a republic, whoever we select as a head of state in their place will still have to be paid and housed.

On that subject the head of state question will not be an easy one to answer. Democratically electing one worries me, as I have a suspicion the traits required in a good head of state are quite different to the traits that the sort of people who would campaign for the role would have.

When Aus/NZ finally becomes a republic, I'd imagine the current system of a party leader being head. They'd get a fair wage for the job rather than 20million for one of their mates to live like an antipodean king and do little more than attend the odd function. There is already a residence or two for the leaders in their respective countries afaik.

When Aus had a referendum to become a Republic in 1999, one of the issues that caused it to be defeated was that the method of selecting a President was to be similar to the system now where parliament would vote on the leader. As I remember, a lot of Republicans wanted the President elected by popular vote and voted against the Republic model presented in the referendum.

You're mixing the prime minister who is the head of the government and runs the country, and the head of state, who is the representative of the constitution. Some systems have them as the same person ( US) but I prefer when they're separate, a la Ireland

I'd elect you growler, but unfortunately I wasn't born into an inbred family generations after they were useful, so I can't...

Oic, Yeah. I did know that, just that I reckon the people are used to the head of the Government being the overall leader.

Either way, the royals, the Union Jack, the constiutional Monarchy and all the corgies in the palace can just fuck right off if you ask me :D
