I think in the long run you'd be more satisfied with a dect phone anyway if you need to have a home phone. Less hassle really.

It's pretty hard to find non cat5e cable (lower than I mean, obv cat6 is easy) so i'd be beyond amazed if it wasn't cat5e.

that's the 'formal living' on the left, only access is via the living/dining/kitchen

2 living areas, the big fucker with kitchen and a smaller one off of that, media/living/whatever. The one in the pic will be our main living area.

And the bedrooms down the hall to the right through the kitchen, big outdoor entertainment area where the sun's coming over through the sliders behind you. I know. The house is only 3 years old and down the end of a quiet street, still close to shops and schools. Pretty good buy, congratulations

I'm not going to know what to do with all the space, going from 150sqm with no storage to 230sqm with fucktons of storage + attic storage.

But the most important things will be done 1st, New TV, amp and surround sound, new fridge & icemaker etc, make sure the fibre and networks all running then I guess I will sort out the beds for the kids etc!

Yeah well on your left out of frame is the wall mount for big TV's, unless it was not included as part of the house and taken; in which case there used to be a large wall mount on your left just out of frame in that picture, so just get another one. That's that sorted.

Kids beds sound important, but organising a house warming is probably more so.

Well DECT stands for Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications

Since using Fibre or VDSL you no longer have a POTS phone line (since most major UFB providers offer VOIP service to replace the POTS services and VDSL needs both pairs of the phone line to work) you can have a 'phone router' something like the linksys SPA2102 to allow you to use a POTS phone on their VOIP service OR their better alternative which is a DECT phone on the Fritz! Boxes, these routers effectively pass through phone calls to the linked up DECT phones.

What's more useful too is since DECT phones are connected to the router opposed to a shitty POTS jack you can have them anywhere in your home without difficulty

about 80 - 100 down and 40 to 50 up..

once it has learned an optimised itself for stability and latency it normally the 80 and 40

What speed are you paying for? there's 30/10 50/20 or 100/50

30/10 was fine for me, dl speeds same as 24 meg adsl, the upstream made a huge difference and the stability. Ping was only about 5-10ms less than adsl though for most things
