Moved into new place, reception in bedroom is subpar on my laptop. I don't have a Wifi adapter on my desktop so I want to pick up one that is going to be able to pick up as much reception as possible before I go asking to have the router moved.

What would you recommend? Grabbing a decent nic or picking up a range booster + a USB dongle.

I like the idea of a booster as it'll give me better reception on my lappy as well.

Bridge mode?

You could even run your router configured with your AP and dhcp disabled and plug into your router, that way you have your decent AP running onto their network without issue (assuming yours reaches)

I vote the bridge mode. You can pickup a wireless router with decent range off trademe for cheap usually (got one for my parents for $40). Even better if its one that supports dd-wrt, then you can adjust the transmit power if its still just short.

wireless <-> wireless bridge will suck balls latency wise for gaming.

I've barely enough time to actually use the net once I'm home from work.

I'll end up getting one of those powerline setups and use my router to share my connection once I'm settled in.
