Yeah can't do that anymore. Lock diff and never been drifting/skidding/crashing through loss of traction, seem mutually exclusive...

Anyhow, helped my mechanic out with a new laptop he bought and managed to get some of his older tuning software to not only open in Win 7 64-bit (on my pc, his is 32) when the provider said it could not be done, but managed to get it communicating with the ECU in question flawlessly and running in full screen, which we couldn't do before. (thanks dosbox!)

Looking forward to getting the new loom, ecu and pod in this month sometime, should leave me with some more low end torque, which should help with launches. Also got a helmet a few weeks back, so will need to go for a jog down the Meremere strip at somepoint

My friend who owned the car before, I've known since I started high school, I was with him when he brought the car from some old guy in Wellington, I know it hasn't been skidded before me, unless you count dirty one wheelers on grass etc. I put the locky in. This car is one of the straightest skylines I have seen, and I live in New Plymouth, where pretty much everyone has one. If it wasn't for the poor paint job and skid rims on the back, it actually looks like a respectable car. Interior and exterior of the car is very tidy.

No, I complete my course in 2 weeks, which takes a year to do. It's a pre-apprenticeship for mechanic. Once I finish in 2 weeks, I will receive my National Certificate in Motor Skills & Certificate in Auto mechanics, which also gave me enough credits to pass my level two and three NCEA.

I'm sure they do, and I don't really care, because I'm still learning, that's why I'm doing a course to up-skill myself as I'm only 17 and of course, don't know everything. But from doing this course one of the requirements is to do over 240 hours of work experience (working for free) which I have already completed, and they must have been happy with my work performance or something because I have a job when I finish in 2 weeks a diesel mechanic apprentice.

Hahaha whatever you say expert. Also when I said never been skidded in a previous post, I should have said has been well maintained or something along those lines. I only wanted to point that fact out, as most skyline's that people buy for the price I got mine, have been thrashed and are generally in bad condition.

The point of his post is that unless you know all the Japanese owners, you truly know nothing about the cars real history. It could have been dumped in a river full of bodies for all you know in Japan and 'reconditioned' for export.

New speakers in front doors done got some kicker ds 6.5's

Got stuck early on as the factory speaker has a weird mount :/

Yes I tried to destroy the speaker to see if I could use the bracket but no joy lol. The bracket is actually apart of the speaker :/

I ended up using stainless steel self tapping screws

After this dry run I rescrewed it in over the plastic in case anyone is wondering.

Splitter is an average size :/ was tricky to work out best place to hide it (Didn't want it in the door)


Hidden behind kick panels in the opening that goes to door jam wrapped it in clothe so it doesn't rattle :> The factory door speaker cables I have left untouched, I did the cable soldering on the other side of the plug in cabin so it's all tidy and easily reversed.


To get the cables through the door jam rubber hosing I used a kebab stick with cat5 electrical taped to it and fed it through lol, I then moused the speaker and tweeter cables using the cat5.

At the same time since I had the door apart I thought I better check the window pads as the windows started getting scratches. Old pad is brown on the left :/ worn back fairly badly


I used faux fair to replace the pads and some glue, far cheaper then paying a dealer ~$100 for replacement pads per door lol. I bought a quarter metre of faux fur for 30ish dollars at spotlight and have 90% left over still.

Replaced pads (with a hair cut as it was a wee bit too long lol)

The drivers said was bit more of a challenge:
The nice clear space on the passengers side was a different story on the drivers side. I unbolted the plate you can see below and disconnected the cables which gave me JUST enough room to slide the splitter inside the same space as I did on passengers side. I feed the speaker tweeter and input cable through the door as I couldn't get enough room in cabin to patch in the input cable there, cheated and did it on the door keke.


The pads on the windows for the drivers window were worn down to the plastic, finally changed all of those. Tweeters were a very tight fit in the stock tweeter spot by mirror but got them in. Sounds fantastic. The rear doors and boot tweeters shall happen another day as it looks like a nightmare to get those rear tweeters out D:
