Tune into 590mhz

Works on my 19" LCD. I never actually lost mine, but I lost the power adaptor ;P

(Which I just found the other day)

o.0

My computer monitors don't tend to come with coax RF input adaptors.

I should probably just buy another PSU for my computer ('TV' is actually an old PCI TV card in a (computer, not cardboard) box in the lounge).

Odd. I've been playing Ascendancy recently. I doubt if anyone plays or has played it

Im going back to play Ascendancy now. Its old yes, but its still good tedious fun

Ascendancy

I would be playing it right now, but I remembered how ridiculously tedious (i.e slow and laggy) the combat can get. Sigh.

Double dragon at spaceworld in Papakura.Rough place for a little white kid in the late 80's but I had to climb those dark stairs twice a week past all the local hoods to feed my addiction.

Kneeing bad guys in the face and then hip tossing them was so much fun.
Wasted a shit load of time playing Tekken 2 about ten years later on my mates PS1.

Survivors should be shot again.

You got it all wrong Tiwa! GOG is a _legit_ seller of old games, they pretty much invented the market for it.. If they hadn't, steam/gamestop etc wouldnt be selling all the old stuff they do now too.

So it's fine to pay GOG for games :-)

You probably had a system with a Hercules Graphics card and the game was in CGA emulation mode.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hercules_Graphics_Card#CGA_Emulation

We had the same setup that let me play Police Quest in beautiful mono green, until dad went nuts and got a 16 colour EGA card.. OMG teh wonder!

Star Control 2

It has come to my attention from EnjoyTheSauce that some of y'all out there dont know about the new Star Control remake. Last year the rights to Star Control was bought by Stardock. I know, because they spammed my inbox about the news

The rights to Star Control have been snapped up by Stardock, and a reboot of the cult classic is planned...

Star Control 2 Remake: Stardock Buys Star Control IP From Atari, Will Launch 'XCOM-Like Reboot'
http://www.idigitaltimes.com/articles/19000/20130722/star-control-2-remake-stardock-sequel-atari.htm

Anyway, recently more news was released about the remake, including screenshots and the promise of a demo

You can find way more information than I can give you here:

Related to *juice*. The Orz like *sauce*, which they seem to acquire through killing: "After the *dancing*, Orz think you will make good *special sauce*. Maybe even for other Orz *party*." It would seem this is likely to be something sinister. The Orz apparently wish those who take part in *parties* to enjoy the *sauce*, as in the above quote, or in their parting words from random encounters: "Do not forget to *enjoy the sauce*."

I got Darklands, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darklands_(video_game) ,from GOG and I see your point now. They provide you with absolutely everything required to run the game as long as you have one functional appendage with which to run the exe

Darklands was hard to get back in the day, the fact that there is a central resource you can get them from is great! Unfortunately: Darklands is not a very good game. Well, it is a REALLY good game, but the interface is bad, there is no clear goals (you're given some vague thing to do and some vague idea of how much time it will take), the characters are flexible but their progression is only hinted at (that monk looking guy would probably a good healer for example), and the win/lose conditions exist, its just that the game doesnt tell you what they are

Having taught Video Game Development for a year, I am starting to see why kids these days dont bother playing games from certain eras. You could say that teenagers today are just dumb, which is true, but it seems that games from the Gold, Silver, and Bronze ages of Gaming were made for super geniuses

Over the Christmas break I decided to try and do something I've been trying to since 1995: Completely Master Colonization

Here are several interesting facts about Colonization that you'll find (almost) no where else.

- The Source Code to Colonization was lost in a fire at MicroProse sometime after its acquisition by Spectrum HoloByte

- Save Scumming, that is reloading an older game to get a better result from a random occurrence, is somewhat prevented in this game by two things. The first is the random events for a turn are not exactly random, having been predetermined from a 'pool' of random numbers. Second: There are TWO save states a game can have, initial load and reload - so if you quit to DOS and load you'll be in a initial save state, but reloading the game ingame puts the save state into its secodary state

- Random Number Generation in Colonization is triggered by three main events: Combat, Visiting Villages, and amazingly: Movement. Moving a unit further than its possible moves causes an RNG chance to continue or remain in place but only if it has already moved that turn

- The names.txt contains all the information about units in the game. If you edit the Caravel's movement to 0 and select the Dutch as your starting nation, then you are playing single player

- The amount of wood you get from clearing forests ranges from 40 - 160 and is permanently fixed to the area. The type of forest cleared does not matter as I've seen scrub forest desert provide 160 wood. The amount is not random. You cannot tell how much wood is there until it is cleared. You should probably build a warehouse at a heavily forested location, just in case

- Always build part of a building if you are going to buy it. For example: A Wagon Train costs ~1000 to build, but just 3 hammers reduces this to ~600

- Small Pox is still the most efficient way to play. That is, placing Settlements as close as you can to each other to exploit the most amount of squares with the least amount of resources, in this case: Colonists

- To win all you need is five or six cities, one coastal, and 15 or more Artillery. Alternatively you can place a Colony on a one square Island and blockade the free square. Before you declare independence, dismantle all other coastal cities. The Royal Expeditionary Force can never take over your Island and you can use your reserve forces to destroy the REF fleet. Be sure to build a Dry Dock on the Island

- Indian Tribes Capital Cities can change what they train at different (random) times in the game. Inca and Aztec never change. In one game the Arawak capital by my initial settlement stopped training Fur Trappers and started training Farmers, causing me to flood the continent with farmers. Easiest win ever

- One Expert Farmer provides base food + 2, not 3 as stated in game help. One expert farmer on Savannah provides 6 food. All you need to create a good settlement is one expert farmer too feed three Statesmen and nothing else. The liberty bells will increase the efficiency of residents, which you can replace with immigrants

- Non important settlements should have a printing press, newspaper, one expert farmer, and three statesmen. Everyone else should leave as soon as the construction is complete

- Try to build Settlements within 1 square of each other. The first settler should always be a statesman, unless the settlement is built on unproductive land, then they will have to be a farmer instead

- Always trade with an Indian Capital, try not to trade with normal villages as they do not offer as much money and ALWAYS build a settlement next to them. Also, in the DOS version, put Missionary's in the capitals as this will decrease unrest, and if you are lucky, make sure your trade settlement is coastal as it will make transporting goods back to Europe easier

- You can use your ships to trade with villages, but the villages will only sell you a maximum of 25 units in return. You should always partially build and buy your first wagon train. It pays for itself very quickly. Guns, Horses, and Tools are good to sell to Indians

- Wiping out native civilizations takes a very long time. You are better off getting Peter Minuit as your founding father and just taking their land instead. The order of Founding Fathers that you should choose is (Thomas Jefferson) - Hernando De Soto - Cortez. In this way you can get LOTS of gold and colonists from Lost City Rumours and ship the money back home for free. In fact, you can use your scout to build a settlement, move the treasure inside, and turn them back into a scout all in one turn

- Angry natives immediately calm down as soon as they've killed or stolen something. Sending a criminal scout as a sacrifice is a good idea

And thats about it for my advice on Colonization. The game is incredibly buggy with many, many deadlocks. And there are all sorts of undocumented annoyances such as:

Indian Converts cannot be equipped with anything, nor can they found settlements
Two ships moving past each other will swap passengers if there is free space on the moving unit. This can be used to quickly transport colonists across the map, but usually ends up accidentally sending a formerly empty trade ship back to Europe with all of the passengers with an in bound vessel

The colonist report shows all the colonist types you've had, not HAVE. Indentured Servants still count as Indentured Servants, even if they've been trained
Yeah I own/loved GalCiv 2 and Sins, but the whole "Sellout to Gamestop" thing just put me right off them. Maybe if they had turned around and provided me with Steam keys for all my Impulse games so I don't have to dirty myself by ever being associated with Gamestop.. but no..I have to be unclean :-(

What is this you talk of? What do you mean "Sell Out to Gamestop"?

I'm not saying Stardock is owned by Gamestop. I'm saying I refuse to trust, or do business with Stardock, because they sold Impulse to GameStop, without offering me an alternative (ie Steam Keys) for all their products making me an unwilling customer of Gamestop.

Imagine if Valve sold Steam to Ubisoft, and all your steam content became Uplay content.. Most people would rage.. that's kind of how I feel.
