At $50 for the Ethernet enabled version, it seems to be a pretty good deal.

My flats Viera tv keeps crashing on some video files. Said files work perfectly well on PC/Laptop via HDMI.

Harden up you wuss. Linux is easier than the microsofts.
Plus you'll find that most old games are either ported or will work in wine.
and that most indy stuff was cross platform to begin with.
