If you had to support it in the Enterprise, and deal with all the badly written java apps, and gaping security holes, you'd want to track down the inventors of Java and stab them too :-P

We use RedHat for our AS, their support is amazing.

As for badly coded apps, yes.

It seems that there is an abundance of bad Java Developers, but that also goes for most other languages too.

A lot of issues can be fixed with a decent IDE, such as IntelliJ

So very much this. Most days I wish java to die.
Fucking Java is like "Oh you want to make one quick config change for this system, please wait 30mins while I load this bloatware then crash when you click the first button".

You honestly have to ask yourself if you really will use it. You'll probably get a lot more use out of it than me if you're already super into programming (I like it but i've never gotten the time to do more than Garrys Mod stuff)


After, what, a year or two? I've only just started using mine as a easy way to play usb / external movies without lugging my computer everywhere. A laptop would be just as good, except I think laptops are the tools used by Reptilian time wizards to spy on the mongolian mcdonald share holders.
