Oranges to Apples, you can't really compare the 2 in terms of gui administration vs command line considering how vastly different the products are

Some things in Windows are easier to do in Powershell (though I normally try and avoid powershell in windows) whereas Linux I find that CLI is often the best option anyway.

Different strokes, Different OS

Well with my limited use of ubuntu server i've found it faster and easier to use cli, where as in windows it's always seemingly faster to use the gui unless you have created batches or powershell scripts specifically prior.

Windows is specifically developed as a GUI system, with a team of engineers with a large budget and usability reviews, etc.
Whatever GUI tool for adminning that gets pumped out of an open source solution is generally a) just a front end, which can be limiting, b) so nasty to use because everyone has no usability experience and c) a heap of people taking things in different ways tacking shit on in their spare time, which makes progress slow in any case, if if the tool should be surprisingly usable.

Plus CLI interfaces are generally much easier to use with bash than they are with command prompt, which is horrible.

I was trying to watch an interesting video about the fight between Apple and Google when a video advertisement appeared:

"Wanna run multiple isolated networks on a single physical network?
Bring the agility of cloud computing inside your datacenter, from the only server built from the cloud up
Windows Server 2012
Built from the Cloud Up"

WTF?

WTF does that even mean?

As the company I work for does cloud services - I can assure you, there are many many features in Server 2012 that are very very nice.

Now if I could get my server without the annoying Metro UI, I would be happy

Well after a couple of months of running a free copy of W8 64bit pro(from dreamspark),my opinion is that its not quite a pile of shit, but its not far off.

My bugs so far,

-Folder permission issues ie cannot paste to certain folders like my music folder.Gives an error "cannot locate target directory"

-Generic USB drivers probably work once out of 3 startups

-Weird mouse issue, when i have certain windows open(like control panel) the mouse cursor will move on its own to the right.

-For the life of me cant figure out how to turn on defender.

-Some kind of DX error on shut down(will only happen if i have watched a movie or something)

Plus there is a couple more that i cant think of right now.

And here i was thinking my first ever legit copy of windows will be plain sailing, after doing mcitp i really should have known better.

GG MS

I have been running windows 8 for a couple of weeks and I have to say, for a PC without a touch screen it's utterly awful.

I've added the classic shell start menu and all the default programs back to windows 7 (instead of those UI void app fucking things) and it's OK.

So basically, stick with Windows 7, whatever you do.

Right, I feel I have given Windows 8 enough time to adjust, but I still find it utterly awful.

I am not a fan of that ClassicShell, its budget as.

Downloaded Start8 which is pretty much identical to the Windows 7 start menu. It has settings to allow you to get rid of those fucking rage inducing corner things that you always accidently click on when youre trying to do something else.

I am now very very happy. Follow this guide: http://blog.laptopmag.com/make-windows-8-like-windows-7
