General performance increase, in some games 5-10FPS, multi monitor backgrounds can be set individually and screenshots now save to a PNG. Yes all these things were possible with 7 and some programs running in the background but I prefer features to be native.

I prefer my native features to be turned off.

Set up a dual-boot this afternoon with W7 and W8. Finally after a few hours I'm getting the hang of this and discovering ways to do things faster, I actually don't mind it. Kust need a few more apps to come out for relevant programs etc, then I may make the change permanently.

Have just upgraded from 7 ultimate did a clean install had no problems and this is going onto a relatively complex rig ssd boot drive, raid storage drive, crossfire, 3 screens all worked a charm nice to have real multi monitor support without installing drivers. So far the only hitch is the driver for my DAC doesn't work in windows 8 despite their site saying "not built for windows 8 but will work" Starting to get the hang of a few of the differences good looking interface while Im still clumsy with it I will get used to it great with multi monitor metro on one side desktop on the other(s).

TBH, the only thing I like (not actually used it except for the Beta) Is the App Store for Desktop applications.

Provides Inde developers a good platform to release applications to people.

I have no issues only running one display. I've gotten used to switching between apps and windows quickly and efficiently and I'm really starting to love 8. Just waiting for more apps to come out for programs I frequently use.

I am tempted to try it, because i run 3 screens, and it sounds nice for the multi monitor system.

I am still not 100% taken with Windows 8, my Main gripe is being forced to use a touchscreen optimized interface on my PC/Server

I find it works great with a keyboard, better then Windows 7. You could probaly do away with the mouse all together (except for games).

I hate using a mouse, hurts my wrists. And all previous versions of windows have been heavly dependent on the mouse, it sucks.

My only real annoyance so far is that there's no start button, the new tile interface in the start menu doesn't bother me but having no fast point and click button is annoying as shit without a third party app

Press the windows key....

Had an issue last nite where my office 2010 pro key wouldn't authenticate.

Had to spend an hour on ms helpline... Was lol because they had to remote in and then couldn't navigate or find anything on windows 8 as they didn't have the training for it yet....

Lol you'd let them remote in?

Also yeah I am using the windows key, sometimes I'd rather not though.

its a program called LogmeIN .. and its a 3 day old clean install not much they could fuck up.  but they did leave a download manager open when they disconnected, ""VIA a Ethernet cable disconnection""

it had all the different msdn iso files there to DL..

but the key works now, something about the iso they had me DL and install had sp1 and other patches for office in it which coupled with win8 was not letting my office authenticate.

I also installed VS2012... and for some reason instead of being a trial.... it has come up as fully registered against my windows live ID... go figure.

i agreed with everything you say.

howeverthe more i use it the more it grows on you.

I HATED to the point of rage the beta and trial versions of 8.

but i have spent the day navigating it.

and tbh it would work well in an office that only uses several apps all day. simple big tiles...

it's  growing on me but then so does cancer, and TBH windows ME grew on me after a while too and that was AIDS.

Not advocating it but its not as bad as i was expecting.

OMG ME TO

I downloaded the metro theme on my iPhone 4 today. I funking love it (when its used on a phone)

Can anyone confirm if you can navigate through the homescreen tiles with an xbox360 controller without the use of a third party app like Xpadder for mapping keys?

You sure I could?

Pretty sure I could play games with it, but not navigate anything except Steam Big Screen without installing third party key map apps.
( unless of course I was missing another third party program I needed to perform basic windows functions with it)

Ideal Situation:

I can load windows 8, use xbox 360 controller to navigate through the tiles to either Media Portal or other multi-media program for multimedia, or navigate to steam big screen for gaming, no key mapping software involved at all (because it interferes with games)

Hmmm I could be wrong... Been about 8 months since I last used xbox controller so maybey I had forgotten about any apps.

Although I was sure it was just base windows control panel settings I changed.
