Meh console.
I'm still laughing at that guy from EB games NZ who was saying how sony and/or microsoft would never kill the 2nd hand game markethow the fuck did that twit get to upper management? he's probably the guy who decides when EB games is having a sale.
haven't seen this comment, and surprised if one of our guys has been quoted somewhere but...considering gamestop & specialist stores that rely on the preowned market sell something like 80% of all consoles sold....it's a valid comment.new hardware drives customers to specialist stores like no ones business, today has been a great example of that, I had groups of people discussing the pro's & cons of both consoles with me all through today.and because of that, both manufacturers WILL be coming up with a better solution for preowned rather than just locking it all down...which at the end of the day is pretty consumer hostile anyway.back to the topic at hand, nothing here has lured me away from playstation for my console, and many of my customers....even the previous xbox fan boys, seem pretty disappointed to...but the proof will be at E3
that was patronising, good job
Marketing director of EB Games, Shane Stockwell, is not so sold on the rumours surrounding a second-hand lockout."If I was concerned by everything I read on the internet, I'd probably have lost my hair a long time ago," he told Fairfax Media."I've learnt to take it with a grain of salt. That's all rumour; there's nothing to say otherwise; I think it would be a strange move from two major corporations to cut off a business avenue in pre-owned games."
BH likes to spew on about what he learnt at uni by superfluously applying it to posts in a way that that only he could really be pleased with what he posted.Usually to do with math bullshit.
ah yes, shane stockwell, he's from our Australian head office and is a very clued up guy, in charge of marketing for the entire Australasian region, which is run pretty independently of gamestop.it mirrors what many are thinking, and reflects how much PO trades fund new game purchases, gamestop had a report out late last year that showed something in the region of 78% trade in's go toward new release, full price game purchases
Now that is an interesting stat, so they'd be effectively reducing sales by nearly 80% any ideas as to what demographic of gamer that is? \
C'mon engineer, take another look at those figures. 80% of sales don't come from PO, 80% of what people get given for PO games gets re-spent on new titles. Ghost didnt mention the proportion of the total new game sales that come from PO trades just the proportion of trade in being respent in store.
