This whole pre-owned game scenario is fucking me off.

The software/game industry is the only industry I can think of, that after you pay full price for the product, the creators still have the audacity to tell you, you don't own it and want in on more profit when the game is sold on.

That enrages me.

A game is a digital product, there can really be no such thing as a "pre-owned" game. Technically there is no difference between a 'new' copy and one that has been on-sold.

In the past, game were mainly distributed only on CD and other physical formats, and also came with printed instructions manuals. Second-hand games made sense them because the physical media could degrade and therefore  the game has less of a perceived value.

However nowadays with digital distribution, that is no longer the case. It doesn't really make sense anymore that a person should be able to buy a 'pre-owned' game for less then a new copy, still get the same gameplay quality as a new copy, and have none of that money even go to the developers.

In my shop it's been pretty pro ps4, with a few of the xbox fanboys looking to jump ship....but i think the vast majority are waiting on e3

because pre orders are refundable/transferable, there's no need to hold off....we'll see xbox (and hopefully ps4) pre xmas so any extra time to spread out the cost is a bonus

They did, but the camera they used was out of focus (or it still had vaseline on it from an earlier porn shoot) so the shot was all blury and you couldn't see much of anything.

I'd be much more keen on the Xbox, at least I know what it looks like.

However, as awesome as it would be to walk into my living room and say "xbox on", and have the xbox and tv turn on, in my experience current voice recognition technologies have been crap. Most of the time my 360 has not been able to understand me, either it can't handle the NZ accent, or I can't pronounce my words correctly.

I was impressed by Kinect, so I'm looking forward to see what this new Kinect can do.

Well, it always has to be on and 'listening', how else would it become active when you say "xbox on"?

It doesn't scare me at all, I find that awesome, it's like Star Trek.

That 'check how many people are in the room' thing just sounds like a silly rumour, I haven't seen anything to back that up.

Having something like that always on, and with the potential to always be listening isn't worth the small novelty of turning the console on with a voice command as opposed to pressing a button.

Why wouldnt they? Im sure Key and the GCSB could make full use of this technology.

While they may not have any reason to listen to anything I do, the fact that they CAN is a little unsettling TBH.

Is this level of tech really necessary for a games console? After all, its only for playing games!

(I mean this is possible right? Don't they have a system in place in the states where if you say certain keywords over the phone your conversation gets saved to a database?)

Seems like Xbox One isn't at war with the PS4 but really it's a push from Microsoft to beat Apple to the living room. It's a shame that the key selling points are really specific to North America where things like Netflix are actually available but I do like where they're going with it.

Personally I'm waiting for E3 but as it stands I'm leaning toward the PS4.... it's all going to depend on whether the always-online rumors surrounding the Xbox One are true and what the selection of exclusive titles for either console looks like.

I'm not sure listening in on people playing Xbox games is going to be particularly fruitful to law enforcement the words raging 15 year olds are going to say while playing CoD might trigger millions of false positives.
