I too would like to know your logic here - Athiests (note this doesn't include people who have replaced a god or gods with a dictator - that is not atheism - that is just another man-made religon) have never persecuted/tortured/killed other people because of their beliefs

I'm more interested in how he thinks the groups involved in this incident are as bad as each other.
One group was trying to hold a peaceful demonstration against persecution of homosexuals and the other was, based on quotes from old ladies, priests and young men, trying to kill the people in the first group.

The real problem isn't religion it's those that de-humanize people by putting them into groups that they write-off as evil or unworthy, the people involved in the attempted lynching in Georgia last week looked at us as an single entity that needed to be destroyed because they are scared of those who don't follow the same lifestyle as them.

Also, you may have meant to say something different but "if I as a religous person kill someone - its in the name of God." is erroneous, a person may be religious or have certain beliefs but may still kill but not necessarily in the "name of their god". It could be a crime of passion or due to their mental state.

to clarify when I said that the religious only kill in the name of god - most religions have a rule against killing people on personal grounds - so to be religious and kill, you either have to break your own rules (in which case I find it difficult to see you as a true believer) or do it in the name of god.

Terrible acts are committed in the name of pretty much any religion with varying frequency. This isn't to say that religion in itself causes people to do these things, I suspect the reason are a combination of something more primordial and extenuating circumstances like scare resources.
