Finally got to meet the guy who I slid into during my crash, he called into the hospital to make sure I was alright as he was pretty shaken up about the whole ordeal. I was extremely happy to finally be able to thank him for his quick reactions that ultimately saved my life.

Well, here's a pic of the car, luckily it was only a company car and hopefully selling what's left of my bike will pay for most of the damages.

Unfortunately for me, had no insurance on the bike, so yea, gonna cost me an arm and one of the legs I broke. Slowly getting better, just waiting to hear back from the doctors on when my next surgery on my foot will be. Cheers for that baldy, pretty sorted atm but will hit you up if I need anything :)

I hate to lecture a man when he's down, but 3rd party.. always 3rd party.. you literally cannot afford to be on the road without at least 3rd party.

Back in the 90's my flatmate hit black ice as he was pulling off the motorway into a servo and wiped out a support pole for a service station forecourt roof (BP between Ngauranga and the Hutt in welly). He was uninsured and got a 30k bill from BP. I suspect he is still paying it off at $5 a week.

Tried to get insurance from a few places, but they just wouldn't insure me as I was only on my learners. Was hoping to get my restricted in the next month since I'd been riding now for 6 months and was planning on getting insurance then but I guess it's too late now.

Ouch, yea will definitely have insurance from now on.

I got the same thing - Insurance companies haven't caught up with LAMS yet - I was lucky that it was only minor damage on my bike and replacing gear that I had to pull out of my own pockets - I echo Lias' sentiments, but even with being over 25 (normally the magical point for getting less reamed by insurance companies) they wouldn't insure me on anything bigger than a 125....

that said, I took my CBTA - which you can take anytime on your learners (If only you had asked a few months ago - would have suggested you come take your Restricted with me and my mate!) and while I was standing in line at the AA, got insurance for my bike

Edit - is that the part of Whangaparaoa rd before the passing lane (assuming you are heading to silverdale, from Gulf Harbour - was that where you had your ding?

Did either of you try these guys? They are specialist bike insurance brokers. They offer insurance form multiple sources.

i found state, aa, tower ect all completely out of touch for motorcycle insurance.

My first insurer was Golightly, having shopped around they arent the best but have decent cover and cover learners.
Have since changed to Swann, slightly more expensive but obviously insuring the trumpet now rather than my cbr.

Protecta are another insurer but Ive found that they are in a dream world for excesses and cover.

kiwibike is a reseller so they will shop around to find you a good deal. After calling them and Swann i could get a better deal through Swann directly rather than a reseller.

Defiantly advise getting insurance no matter what youre driving or riding.

Aside from that hope you heal up well. (wear boots in future ;))

I didn't have a good experience with Protecta so would never recommend them.. NAC were good to me on my learners, but this is nearly a decade ago.

Hey guys, cheers for the advice. As soon as I had my licence, my dad(who's name the bike was under) tried to get insurance for the thing through AA who is also our insurer for our home and contents plus other vehicles and they wouldn't insure the bike as I was only on my learners. I wish we had shopped around and found a place that would but I guess I'll learn from this mistake and make sure my next bike is covered.

Thought I'd also share with you guys the xrays of my legs, as you can see I have a rod going down my right leg as I broke the tibia and fibula and in my left leg a plate where I have a tibial plateau fracture.

Spoiler :
Right leg

Left leg

I've looked at your x rays and wish I hadn't.

Maybe you should quit riding motorcycles, or at least stop posting the results here.

It's like some gruesome MOT campaign.

2nd Hand Suzuki GSX650FU, was only taking it for a serious test ride, asked for Frame sliders and Pack Rack system to be installed and total price for all of that - they said they would chuck them in for free, installed if I could pay a deposit.....

So I paid a deposit :D

It's ok if you race superbikes and live in the central north island.

But Shaun Harris's ravings are nutty.
